i'm not even a big open wheel racing fan, and every single thread in here is a nascar thread, but here i go:

danica patrick is pretty much the most non-deserving "hype" "athlete" of our generation and she brings nothing to the table but bullshit. she doesn't even win races. it's pretty pathetic when she's the best thing open wheel has going for it, and just because she's DP, even stupid bullshit like her little "run in" with dan wheldon becomes a big story. are you kidding? i heard the promo on SC (probably the biggest problem) about her little dustup with wheldon and i expected f-bombs, punches, or even her forcing her crew members to hold herself back. and it was all over fucking NOTHING. she didn't even shove the fucking guy! she just grabbed his arm and told him some words. talk about empty promises. i would have been cheering her on if she would have decked wheldon or at least thrown a temper tantrum or something.

danica is cute, for the most part, but i completely disagree with the all the "hype" about how she's so fucking hot. maxim rating her one of the 100 hottest women was a complete fucking travesty. she's cute, but she's not even close to drop dead gorgeous, especially when she's wearing those stupid fucking sunglasses that cover over half of her face. that's a problem i have with all women, but with danica, jesus fucking christ she looks like the fucking bug. even milka duno is hotter than danica, but the fact she sucks more than hugo chavez at a che guvara reunion, she gets no recognition.

everything about danica is false hype. it's like they try to play up her "competitiveness" but she's barely even an impact on the circuit. jesus fucking christ, sarah fisher and lyn st. james have done more for women in racing than danica probably ever will, unless you consider posing in little to no clothing in skin mags and making all that cash from endorsement deals progress.

i don't hate danica, in fact, i think it would be pretty cool if she hit a hot streak and started making waves for herself in open wheel racing. but i'm sick and fucking tired of seeing her face as the #1 entity when it comes to anything open wheel in the US. and jesus christ woman, lay off the fucking makeup for your photo shoots and stop wearing those stupid fucking sunglasses. you aren't a smack addict, last time i checked.

Nice rant, Screwed.

Danica is a decent enough driver, but nowhere near what even the lowliest scrub is on the Busch circuit. She does get by on her looks and just because she's a she. Whatever, you use what you've got. I still root for her to do well because I root for the underdog.

But I soured on the whole Danica mania when she came out wanting to go to NASCAR so's she could cash in on her fame. She's not about loving to race, she's about getting rich before her ass gets flabby.

When it comes to open wheel, and I dig that scene, I'm liking Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish. That said, if they went to Cup racing, they'd be another Montoya and Newman waiting to happen. As in, they'd get their ass kicked weekend and weekout.

There's a reason all the topics here are about the best series, and best drivers, in racing.

i know, i know. it was a half assed attempt at trolling. but in all honesty, i have a friend who is a die hard F1 fan with a sure fire inferiority complex with nascar who would fight you to the death over F1 vs. NASCAR. we watched the dubai race (or wherever it was in somse middle east desert) and it was boring as fucking hell. but the real fun is getting him liquored up at parties and telling him some dude is talking shit about how nascar is better than F1. dude would freak out like the dude just slipped his dick in his girlfriend. quad mcwheels, blackout drunk, i tell you.

I disagree. Danica is at least a decent 2nd tier driver. The fact that she can be air-brushed to look good in magazine spreads gives her that much more attention.

Over-hyped athlete though....remember Anna Kornikova? An atrociously hot, beautiful blonde who I'd give my left nut to fuck.....but she couldn't return a serve if her life depended on it and never ranked higher than like 150 in the world.

I agree that Kournikova got plenty of attention due to her looks, and that she never won a singles title, but she was not a horrible tennis player. She did get as high as number 8 in the world in singles, and at one point she was rated number one in doubles (playing with Martina Hingis, I believe).

my counter to that was anna was never counted on to "save" her sport like danica. danica is the only thing going for open wheel publicity wise. anna was not the only thing going on in women's tennis at the time.

While not nearly as popular as NASCAR, the IRL didn't and doesn't need Danica to 'save' open wheel racing any more than tennis needed Pornikova.

They'll always be a niche for cars that can fly around the track at 225 mph without going airborne. It's actually some very competitive and exciting racing. I went to an IRL race at Kansas Speedway in July of 2001 and it did not suck, even though the temp was near 100 degrees.

They'll survive one way or another. There's plenty of people who dig motorsports racing of any kind who'll always show up and drop cash at the event in their area.

Q, I did that to one of my best friends last year at Topeka. We were standing right behind Larry Dixon's Top Fueler just before they fired it up to warm the motor, clutch, and rearend. For those of you that don't know, when these guys warm up these Top Fuel and Funny Car dragsters they initially start them up on methanol....then, after about a minute or so they switch the fuel supply over to 80% NITRO, blip the throttle a few times, switch it BACK to methanol and kill the engine by shutting off the meth pump.

Well, as soon it fired I started to back up, knowing full well that in a few moments the car would start cackling to the tune of 80% nitro and anybody standing within 50ft. of it would start gagging and their eyes would begin to burn due to the intense nitro fumes. When I got back far enough, my buddy was still standing there about 5ft. behind the car when they switched it to nitro, and he about fucking hit the ground in pain, gasping for air and wiping tears profusely from his eyes....dude turns around to find me and sees me absolutely laughing so hard I almost shit myself, and yells, "You motherfucker!!! Why didn't you tell me that was going to happen!!!" BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Having said that Q, you MIGHT NOT wanna do that to the Mrs.

That's cool. Gary Scelzi is a local yet not well recognized. I was in the doctor's office a few months ago and he sitting sitting in the waiting room with me. The Medical Assistant calls his first name then asked what his last name was. I about told her he's known for speeding. I guess he won in Joliet recently.
