Streaming Radio

Post by Mikey »

The choices in broadcast radio around here consist basically of juvenile drive-time jocks playing "classic" rock, Mexican music and NPR (which is what I normally listen to while driving). I know there are some good stations out there, though. My son in law turned me on to this station while we were in NY/NJ last week:

http://www.wfuv.org/

WFUV is a member-supported station from Fordham University. They play an incredibly eclectic mix of mostly interesting stuff. I tuned in once, and they were playing Black Peter, next time it was a blues concert from West Virginia featuring Buddy Guy. Saturday morning while we were driving up the Hudson Valley it was all Celtic music. They play folk music, world music, Indie and everything else. Right now there's a show going on called Echoes, with some kind of spacey stuff.

Any other good streaming stations out there?

That's very cool. I'm gonna have to start sampling from that huge list.

The thing I like about WFUV is that they can't be defined by one genre or another. They play a very eclectic mix. which always seems to keep it interesting.

My two favorite sports talk radio stations are streaming live online...1270 WXYT out of Detroit and WMVP (ESPN 1000) out of Chicago. They help make the workday fly by. With music, I just listen the MP3s on my laptop.
