Look at this bollocks. This, believe it or not, is a list of the slogans on the side of the official team buses...

Costa Rica- “Our army is the team, our weapon is the ball. Let’s go to Germany and give it our all”
Côte d’Ivoire - “Come on the Elephants! Win the cup in style”
Croatia – “To the finals with fire in our hearts”

England - “One Nation, One Trophy, Eleven Lions”
France – “Liberté, egalité, Jules Rimet”
Germany - “We are football”

Korea Republic - “Never-ending legend, united Korea”
Ghana – “Go Black Stars, the stars of our world”
Mexico - “Aztec passion across the world”
Netherlands – “Oranje on the road to gold”
Paraguay – “From the heart of America… this is the Guarani spirit”

This is the USA bus - the only one not to have the national flag on the side, to avoid it getting blown up.

Not so incognito if you know what it looks like...

Hey,

We don't need the flag on the side of our bus. It's sacred! It can't be defaced by those Euro hooligans.

We suck anyway. Good.

Sin,

U.S. apologists with a Royals-(insert team here) game on the radio, while watching their kids play soccer.

Did I read that correctly on the Yahoo! World Cup page...Team USA is ranked #4 in the world right now?

I'm familiar with some of the veterans on the team...Reyna, Pope, McBride. Is this team this highly rated because of the new wave of young players they have?

the results are actually calculated on games from the previous 8 years, but with more weight to more recent games... so the US has steadily moved up the chain as they have begun to erase some of their horrible showings pre-98 world cup.

but yes, their results are definitely a result of the new youth, but also from the greater amounts of americans that are playing abroad.

I think the US team is overrated at #5, I think they are a top 20 team but not a top 10 or top 5.

I've seen a few of the qualifiers and friendlies the last couple of years. I can't say that I'm blown away what I've seen. I don't think a top 5 team in the world should struggle with Jamaica or Honduras. If they win their opener with the Czechs, that hopefully will get them through to the quarterfinals. I'm not holding my breath that they'll be able to beat Italy. We should at least expect them to make it to the knock-out round. It's a scary proposition that if they advance to the round of 16, they could face Brazil in the first game.

Most of National Italian sport teams wear blue shirts because of a game early last century: in 1911 the Italian team (the shirt was white) met Hungary in a match, one of the better teams at the time. That day they wore a blue shirt, in honor of the Savoia royal family and of the King of Italy (blue was the color of the Savoia flag). Since they won, they decided to wear a blue shirt as the official shirt.

Germany used to wear green as their away shirt because their first international was against Ireland, apparently.

Congrats. You get an orange pie.

Chalk that up as another piece of useless knowledge.

I'll be impressed when the can win in Mexico City. Until then, they have no business being mentioned with the elite teams.
