Depends. If Meds is coming for dinner, I take the empty bottle and fill it with Chuckles.

In which case, right around --

With a name like that, I'm guessing some assmunch is willing to pay over a C Note for it.

PS: Just googled it. You wine freaks are even dumber than I thought.

Uhm...

What would you guess would be the average price for a Napa Cab?

I see PSU working.

Since I'm entirely too lazy to type out "www.google.com" -- is Screaming Eagle one of Bob's little "sidebar" projects? I know I've heard the name, don't know anything about them (and really don't care, exceot that you went and brought it up).

I have tasted it. Clearly, it's a cult wine...because if I were to guess what it cost just on taste alone, I'd probably put it at $120 retail -or "an awful lot", on a good day.

Truer words never spoken.

I'm not much of a wine drinker per se, unless it's shoved in my face, which is a pretty frequent occurance under my circumstances. But should I ever get the itch, I can score some prett deece Bordeaux stuff out of the Columbia Valley in SE Washington for $5-6 a bottle. A $60 bottle isn't ten times better. Not that I can't enjoy fine, high-dollar wines, but I just don't really see the point...at my income level, anyway.

I see from m2's link that the wooden case (empty of wines) is being auctioned for $27.00.

Nope. It's a bottle of wine that pours 4-5 glasses. Nothing more, nothing less.

Try buying it - you have to petition somebody to have them take your bid. Then, you better insure its delivery, because that thing might break on the way to your house.

Then, you can cellar it to get the most out of it...3-5 years or so.

Then, you better pour it for someone who's willing to respect that kind of effort, because let me tell you, I'd rather crack a beer.

Truth be told(not really my style on this site), we agree about a whole buncha stuff. But that doesn't make for particularly compelling messageboard discourse, now does it?
There are some very good wines for about $15.
There certainly is. I believe you mentioned having a friend who was a distributor, so I don't know if you have good access to the Columbia Valley stuff, but the "hot weather"(mostly Bordeaux) varieties pretty much grow like a weed there(assuming they can find some water. Different from the Burgundy stuff here, which never requires water once the vines are established). And they do some pretty serious acreage of vinyards there, almost to the point of overproduction. As it is, they tend to flood the market (around here, anyway) with good(depending on winery) Bordeauxs/hot weather stuff(unless fall comes too early in Eastern Washington). My winemaker bud had an opportunity to buy up merlot for just about nothing. Unfortunately, his little tiny outfit had all of their capital tied up elsewhere(like sitting in inventory -- small wineries are rapidly becoming a rough gig in the U&L), so he was unable to come up with enough dough to make it worthwhile. Apparently Duck Pond Cellars did, since I just saw a bottle of merlot with their label on it for $3.99. Freaking $3.99. Can't say for fact, but I believe it was probably from the same source...and for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the outfit that now has the massive (did I mention "massive?") merlot vinyards. They sell what they can, and ferment the rest and sell it bulk. Indiviual wineried oak and finish it themselves. And finished right, the shit ain't too bad, at all. For $3.99. By the time a small outfit gets it in a bottle with a cork in it, and in a case with a lanbel on it, $3.99 reatil isn't going to cut it. There's a definite trend towards larger scale production these days. Napa and Sonoma have enough prestige associated with their appelations that they're not subject to this so much. That, and those vallies tend to produce some of the best fruit on the planet...there is that.

I've decided I'm being entirely too Kindler and Gentler in this thread.

I'll remedy that...
PSUFAN wrote:Try buying it - you have to petition somebody to have them take your bid.
It's good to be me. While you might have to petition somebody, I could pick up the phone and have a bottle on its way within the hour. This would of course be strictly due to gravytraining somebody else's cred, but I could, nonetheless.

Because I KNOW people.

Of course that would never happen in a million years, since I'm more inclined to blow $1800 on a bitchin new set of irons, but I could if I wanted to...I'll betcha.

OK, I feel better now...back in character.

I've seen your pic. You "caught up" by the time you were ten years old. You should now probably work on undoing this "catching up." Your arteries will thank you for it.

Sorta like paying $2,000 for a vacuum cleaner.

If you have the disposable income, then I guess it doesn't suck to be you.
