1. Johnson/Elmore
2. Lundquist/Raftery
3. Enberg/Bilas

4. Nantz/Packer

I liked them until last night, when they truly sucked. Elmore had absolutely nothing to say except that it's still only a 4 point lead and as soon as Memphis starts hitting they should be able to win. All Gus Johnson could some up with was that when UCLA is at home watching the Final Four they will kick themselves for missing all those free throws.

Legitimate points, but repeated every thirty seconds for the final 30 minutes of the game it becomes a little repetitive.

all props to the guy for 8 zillionth Final Four/NCAA in a row....but he's got subject-verb/gerundive inversion disease.....which is great if you are reading Latin.

Sooner fans will recognize this in Big Bob.

Thread OVAH.

Next to Marv Albert, he may have the best announcer voice in the industry. I also like Wayne Larivee's voice...calls games on the radio for the Packers and does TV games for Big Ten hoops. Harlan doesn't bring the same emotion to an exciting play that Johnson does though.

That's all he brings. :meds: No insight. No analysis. No... nothing. He's nothing more than a loudmouthed fan watching the game. It's my job to be excited and scream and hoot and holler at the TV... not his. I want stories. I want to know that happened in the shoot around. I want to know who looked nervous the night before. I want to know the type of shit the coach was working on in practice. I want to know why UConn can't get around that double screen in time to get a hand in the shooter's face. I want to know that the 12th man's uncle is the coach's 3rd cousin on his sister's side.

Not the job of the play-by-play guy. That's Elmore's duty.

UCant seems to be unable to grasp that concept.

Anyway you can shoot a "concept" with steroids? Me might, then.

Says who? I don't know if you've noticed, but good announcing duos have evolved into intermixing commentary, stories, insight, and analyis regardless of how you have them pigeonholed. It's not just one guy's job to offer up play by play and the other guy to do all of the analysis. Do you even listen?

Regardless... Johnson does the game like he's doing a radio broadcast... too loudly. He's annoying as fuck and he's got that "fake" Top 40 disc jokey voice going on. It's pathetic. He definitely went to the Brent Musberger school of hyperbole broadcasting. They both can't get throat cancer soon enough.

I haven't found Johnson to be incessently loud throughout the game. When he is, it's A) usually during the correct moments, such as the last couple minutes of the game after a clutch shot is made and B) fairly brief. He doesn't go on these long winded, fragmented tangents like other guys. I guess one of the reasons I can appreciate him over the other guys is that he doesn't hold to a schtick. He calls the game like he sees it, seems genuinely excited about the action, and isn't always trying to crack the witty one liner like a Lundquist, isn't a straight up jackass that gets ahead of himself like a Musberger and brings more life to the game unlike the bumbling old Enberg or Jim Nantz. Not saying the guy sets a precedent in play calling, but from the utter weakness that we have to choose from, he's my choice.
