jesus, you see more face time for the sponsors on the boards in the commercial than you do anything relating to hockey. the produced hockey acting is horrible beyond belief and there is little live action footage. plus, i have to see that fucking kid smiling twice every 30 seconds. sappy shit is not hockey, bettman!

Even worse are teams that put their team name after the my nhl bit....my nhl changes to my devils

Even worse is having nameless and faceless teams with cheesy jerseys that look like the old LA colors and Chicago colors.

How about having the Rangers taking a faceoff against the Bruins, or other classic rivalries.

Gary's strong suit has never been marketing.

Watching some of the games from back in the 70's on Leafs TV and ESPN Canada, you see the boards without sponsers all over them.
It looks different only because now we're so conditioned to having every inch of boards being littered with some company's name on it.

I'm with Cross Traffic on this one.. the NHL needs to promote it's history more and show more of the classic rivalries

another thing i have noticed this year regarding advertising on the rink, is that they are changing on-ice ads in the neutral zone every game now. and as a hockey player, i can't imagine that being good skating if the ice is getting melted and frozen every game, or if they have rut problems.

I don't mind it marketing the league as a whole but I don't like the Matrix-like effects in the ads. They do need to work on marketing some of their players also...other than Crosby. At least market a guy who's done something in the league. For a team sport to throw all of their eggs into one basket and that guy fails, the sport looks really bad. There are lots of amazing players in the league right now that need to get their names put in lights if the NHL wants to attract fans or general interest. I don't want them to go overboard with marketing and be total sellouts.
