These things have been around for a long long time. You can actually buy them for almost nothing, or better yet, you can buy real directional antennas that go even farther for about $50 to $100.

Or you can move to civilization, where wireless networks are a dime a dozen. Most people I know with wireless home networks install software firewalls on the clients, and leave the router unsecured. Boot up a lappy with a wireless NIC, and you can usually find several open networks to choose from, anywhere in the metro area.

Wait, you're in canada...scratch that "civilization" thing.

Wow, I'm fairly sure that is the gayest word I ever heard anyone use to refer to a laptop.

Also that works in towns and cities, but in neighberhoods where your house is a few hundred feet away, it may not work as well or at all.

Thought someone would get a kick out of "lappy."

And I don't use a mobile PC, but on the occasions I've had my hands on one, it has found an open network every single time. My friends who are more frequent mobile users report that they can get a network anywhere in or around town. A lot of people do it on purpose, just in case anyone needs an internet connection.

Actually, I know a guy who can't get DSL where he lives, even though it's a heavily populated area, not too far from a road that has fiber buried beneath it, but the phone network is archaic in his neighborhood (this has been a pretty comical battle with the phone providers in his area, since the dude is a webmaster, among other things, which has been going on for years and years). Dude is so pissed about the outrageous money that Comcast charges him for service (like 60 bones a month) that he put up signal boosters all over his property, and I think one in the neighbor's yard. Something about "sticking it to the man" or something. There's quite a few people like that around here.

I don't actually use anything as retarded as a wireless network, just thought since this forum's been taking a turn for the warez, you cheap-asses might appreciate stealing shit.

The term "lappy" is fairly gay. Not as gay as "rig"...but similarily fudge-tastic.

Oh c'mon guys, it's so simple, maybe you need a refresher course. It's all wireless these days.

Pretty freaking funny hearing a canadian refer to wireless as "retarded." You clowns are probably still saying that about the telegraph.

Wireless is for lazy-ass femmes who can't manage a drill and a cable tacker.
