Dire Straits

i don't listen to much classic rock anymore, except for young neil, steve stills and CSN, but i always find time to bust out some dire straits. mark knopfler, what can i say about him that hasn't already been said by thousands of people? one of the most distinctive voices in rock and roll history, an absolute terrorizer on the guitar, and one of the best song writers to come out of the late 70s/early 80s.

i'd have to say, contrary to popular opinion, making movies is their best album because i'm a sucker for romeo and juliet and tunnel of love. brothers in arms is a great album, obviously, and i'll probably listen to it later tonight, but making movies pushes my buttons a little bit more.

favorite DS songs:

R&J
telegraph road
tunnel of love
money for nothing
sultans
walk of life
ride across the river
private investigations

mark knopfler: a legend on his own level.

"YEAH YEAH YOU GET YOUR CHICKS FOR FREE"

"Sultans" is played frequently on the jukebox at my favorite watering hole. THE BEST!

I like Dire Straits, but was never intrigued enough to really delve into their stuff. Maybe I'll run them through the "high and headphones" test.

Good plan.

I'll go with Screw Mich and recommend Making Movies.

money for nothing is the radio hit, obviously, but i have a live version from 85 that kicks major ass. mark is unbelievable at the end of the song.

Their first 2 albums (Dire Straits and Communique) still kick ass. Making Movies and Love Over Gold are pretty good, but not quite to the standard of the first two. Twisting By The Pool rocks, but it is way too short. And Brothers In Arms was good for nailing trendy hippy chicks back in the 80s but not much more.
