I like it. They are expanding their musical horizons. Its nice to see a taltneted band actually use their talents instead of cranking out the same style songs over and over. Looks like they finally found a producer who will light a fire under their ass and make em work in the studio. Good effort by the band.

I didn't know they had a new album coming out. Are you talking about First Impressions of Earth? I see that it's not out until after the New Year...how did you get to hear it already?

You'd probably have to make the trek out to the east side.

I saw them play at the Fox Theatre downtown Detroit about a year ago.

Going to Detroit's no big deal...just never hear about them touring around here. Thought they just hung around the two coasts. I hear their live shows are pretty wild...

I can't imagine too many rock acts (mainstream or otherwise) passing up Detroit on a tour.
I hear their live shows are pretty wild...
Crowd gets into it...band members are pretty much plants on stage.

Basically. Julian Casanova rambles on about something, says fuck about 5 times in a sentance and they play the next song. I thought they sucked live.

I thought they were pretty good live. Band seemed pretty sober, and played real clean and tight. Julian didn't say much, if anything, other than a smattering of thank yous in between songs.

I really liked them live. It was their first time in the 314 and the place was fucking packed. Mind you, I haven't seen them in some time. Back then they were just a NYC buzz band.

I saw them here at the Hard Rock 3 years ago. They seemed bored and Casanova made no sense in between songs. It felt like a rushed performance.

Ok, I finally got the new album. Not every song is immediately catchy like those on Room on Fire or Is This It, but they've definitely branched out a bit more (for as much as the Strokes consider "branching out"). 1st half is very, very good. 2nd half is mediocre at best. Favorite songs: Razorblade, You Only Live Once, Vision of Division (jaw hit the floor first time I heard this), Ask Me Anything, Evening Sun and Heart in a Cage.

Bought the album yesterday. I've listened to it a handful of times...I like it. Very mellow but it'll be a good album to listen to when you want to unwind.

I didn't really get that from it at all, except for maybe a small handful of songs. Track 6, Vision of Division, is probably their most "complex", hardest rocking tune they've ever written.

JC vocals tend to calm the mood of their music...sort of like Beck or Tom Petty. There are some rocking songs...I agree with you on Vision of Division. It's like a jolt of energy after some slower songs. For some reason the sudden ending to Ize of the World was a very bold point in the album as well. You Only Live Once and Fear of Sleep are a couple favorites of mine from the album.
