Looking to buy a laptop via Dell (my company offers a nice discount if I buy through them).

Laptop is for my wife who'll use it for work (mostly microsoft office, power point, etc..) as well as net surfing (email etc..).

Dell gives 2 options-

Intel Celeron 360 (1.40 ghz/1mb cache/400 mhz FSB)
Intel Pentium 740 (1.7 ghz/2mb cache/533 mhz FSB)

The pentium is $100 more. Is really worth my $100 to go with the pentium? As a stated.. no pc gaming or anything will take place on this.

Celeron processors are markedly inferior. They are just REALLY slow. Forget about gaming...Celerons make commonplace computing tasks arduous. How long do you want to wait for IE or Word to load?

This is $100 well spent.

Took the advice and went with it. Spent a little over $900 after taxes for a nice rig.

Good work. $100 more is a worthy step for a better processor, IMO.
