Need input regarding music downloads

I guess I'm gonna have to go legal with music downloads , but there's too many choices. My daught wants an ipod, but it seems itunes is more expensive than some other music engines I've seen. I keep checking out Yahoo Music for the unlimited downloads for like 5 bucks a month. Is this a good service? I notice they charge extra to download to a compatibale device, but I'm still low tech. Can I just download songs and burn them to CD? Anyone savy about this stuff. Please help....

I plan on stealing what I want until the day the feds kick my door in. There's still plenty of it going on, you just have to look.

Why go legal? Just download from Limewire and you can transfer the MP3s directly to the ipod.

What about burning to a CD? Is this also possible? I've been seeking wisdom on this subject as well.

My problem with the pay services is that you don't get the best quality files. I want 320 Kb/s or better to get the best sound quality when you listen to them on the computer or MP3 player or when burn it to a CD. Napster was about half the quality. It works for just computer use with bad speakers but when you listen to them on a stereo system, you can tell the difference between that and the song on the original CD. Until any of these services offer the top quality song files, I won't pay a dime.

Nope, you're SOL. No file of any kind can be burned to CD. That's why CD burners have gone the way of the dinosaur -- they were a scam.

I think you're right.
I've not been able to do this either.

I used to download from Napster and a few other services, but got tired of incomplete files. Half the time, even when you try to download the same song you got the truncated version of from someone else, it turns out they got the same fucked up one you did! Grrrrr.... I started using iTunes once I got my iPod about a year ago and have no complaints. I especially like the feature where people post their own playlists. I've found a TON of new music I never would have ordinarily listened to by checking out what other people with similar interests listen to.

Torrents , Fast Track ( Kazaa ) , gIft , and gnutella networks all have mega content still . You just gotta find a app to access them ( I use a Mac , and my P2P clients/apps are XFactor , Limewire , ACQlite , I-Swipe , and Poisoned ) . But the real gems are on a UseNet server , using a app like Forte Agent . I have gotten full albums with a fat bit-rate , and some rare gems as well . That's where the booty is .

I've had few problems with LimeWire--
I even found a Barclay James Harvest tune
I liked on it--
iTunes has an ever increasing music store of
stuff for 99ยข a tune !!
I love putting together CD's of playlists of
the stuff I actually played on radio.

Bang on. The hardest part is finding a decent server. I've been using Easynews and for just $10 a month I can download 20 gigs (more is available for free if you do stuff like take a weekly survey). I used to use Agent, but it seems to be lagging behind apps like Newzbin, which lets me use every lick of bandwidth I have to download at blazing speed.

Another great thing about Easynews is their search feature, although you have to do a bit of digging to find it. This is important because Usenet is time sensitive. Stuff only stays on the server for a relatively short time.

What groups do you prefer, drummer?

This is kind of what I was thinking about - I should have posed the question differently. I hear all this stuff about downloading music in this or that format to this and that device but don't hear much about how well it transfers to CDs.

I switched ISP's ( I used to have Earthlink as my previous ISP ) , and I don't have a USENET account yet . I think Earthlink used to use a USENET server , which has loads of content , and I don't think the RIAA can go after USENET servers and users , but most anything that is alt.binaries.mp3 has some good newsgroups . You also can get movies ( broken up in smaller files , which is a pain if they don't have all the files , or a few are corrupt . It's like getting all the pieces to a puzzle , and if you miss a few , your puzzle may never get finished . But , you can request for the poster to repost ) , games , books , manuals , porn ( mega porn ) , hell , just about anything that can be accessed throught the internet .

alt.binaries is where to start . Then you can try a search through whatever app you use .

I've used this for about a week, works great. Very minimal resource drain.
I've also been using PeerGuardian2 in conjunction to reduce psuedoseeds...it's effective, but sometime needs to be disabled to access governmental sponsered sites like-
http://apod.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html.

-otherwise it's good stuff.
