Which game system to get....

My folks are getting me a $250 gift card for Best Buy and I'm toying with the idea of getting a game system, since that'd be a nice chunk of it.
Whichever one I snag has GOT to be able to play the Lucasarts stuff (e.g. Battlezone), since I'm a Star Wars freak. I've got a 6-yr-old who wants to play his age-appropriate crap too.
Thought about GameCube...but no SW:Battlezone II for that, best I can tell.
Any thoughts or drunken recommendations?

If you plan on playing on a widescreen or HD television, it's a no-brainer. Go XBox. And make sure you spring for Monster cables.
If you're not in a rush, I'd wait until Spring and see what happens with the prices of the XBox 360 and PS3.

From what i'm getting; you could prolly pick up a barely used XBox 360 for $50 now.
btw...that was my drunken recommendation, I know I know, but it's Grey Cup Weekend.

You have to remember the gaming audience. The messageboards and bad press always come from the very vocal minority. People rarely log on to messageboards, let alone post about their happiness and satisfaction. One of the gaming sites (Gamespot, Gamespy, IGN, etc.) actually did a lot more research on the 360 "troubles" and found that it was, more or less, a bunch of crap and that the techincal issues were of a normal % for any release. They noted that, on average, the Sony PSP had far more problems with its recent release.
That said, if I had waited in line for hours and got a bum system - I would be pissed too.

I bought the Playstation and PS2 on their release dates and had problems with both machines. There are always isolated problems when there is a huge product rollout like this. I waited until Halo came out before I got my Xbox and it still works great (although I rarely use it now).
Did you get an Xbox 360, Fu? Normally I'd be right on a machine like this when it came out, but I don't really have the time to play so spending five or six hundred dollars would be a waste right now. It does look cool though.

I wouldn't. Most inexpensive quality cables are just as good.

I haven't been able to get my hands on one yet.

Just don't expect to get a good picture with the RCAs is my point. Get quality cables. I love my Monsters, but they were the only ones that I tried.

Bought one this week from Gamestop.com. It was a bundle that had the premium system, 7 games, two extra controllers, two play & charge kits and and extended warranty.
I'll have it on Tuesday.
