Nice strawman arguement there Softball. I asked about it being visible at your house and not mine at the same time. Your response was to ignore that.

Here's an idea, that's maybe too logical for the folks around here.

Next time there's a full moon, grab a ruler. Hold the ruler at arm's length and measure the diameter of the moon once when it's on the horizon and once when it's overhead.

Come back here and report the results.

I going to guess that some people are going to assert that due to the location of their shoulders, the position of the ruler is different relative to their eyes and that explains why the fucking moon is the same size in the sky as it is at the horizon.
Good point. I hadn't thought of that.

You might be able to adapt one of these:

Jay, you are not fooling anyone who cares to pay attention here.

We are not talking about a supermoon, we are talking about the moon illusion.

From NASA...

Why does a rising Moon look much bigger than the same Moon seen high in the sky during
the middle of the night?
Turns out, it doesn’t—and we can blame the illusion on the way
our eye-brain combination behaves. Want proof that it’s just an illusion? Follow the steps
below for a do-it-yourself test...

https://moon.nasa.gov/observe-the-moon/ ... -it-rises/

The moon is bigger on the horizon than up in the sky.
NASA says this is what our eyes see.

http://www.davidsenesac.com/Information ... sight.html

The Earth has a radius of approximately 3965 miles. Using the Pythagorean theorem, that calculates to an average curvature of 7.98 inches per mile or approximately 8 inches per mile (squared).

- David Senesac

http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/qq/databa ... dyck2.html

Hence the earth's surface curves approximately 8 inches in one mile. Look at our response to Shirley to see what happens after the first mile.

- Math Central

https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=l5I ... e.&f=false

The true level being a curve line which falls below the straight line of apparent level about 8 inches in one mile; 32 inches in two miles, etc., the curvature always augmenting in proportion to the square of the distance.

- The Complete Mathematical and General Navigation Tables

https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=ZE0 ... e.&f=false

The degree of convexity of the earth is, as nearly as can be stated in figures, 7 inches and 9/10ths of an inch, or nearly 8 inches in a mile.

- Chambers information for the people

It is a basic question.

If asked the question, you ought to immediately reply, "Oh yes, the earth curvature rate is ____________."

The end.

So, help your team mate Dinsdale out and verify that this is accurate...

This is obviously not proof of any earth shape, but it is interesting.

http://archive.jsonline.com/news/wiscon ... 50821.html

Story about the Great Lakes, and how they are essentially one river that travels a distance of 2212 miles and dumps into the Atlantic Ocean.

Click the link to see the full graphic and to read the story.

Image

Flat water.
Dam.

Flat water.
Fall.

Flat water.
Dam.

etc...

Dumping into the Atlantic at 0 ft sea LEVEL.

Why doesn't the graphic show the water curving?
It shows the water continuously level.

How silly of them.
lol

A lot of earth curvature must occur over the span of 2212 miles on that gosh dern globe.

Funny...
That massive earth curvature is not represented at all on the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration model.

Far easier to draw a picture in 2-D without curvature for an article than it is to depict it with the curvature.

Your turn, how can the moon not be visible at my house when it is at yours at the same time? You claim you aren’t trolling and really want to know, so if this was true why aren’t you experimenting with different shapes to see which ones recreate what we observe on earth?

Give me a break.

There is no earth curvature.
If they made this graphic according to the ridiculous globe, some people would look at Lake Superior curving over 379 miles -- water curving up, but then somehow falling down at the dam, and be like, "wtf?"

The whole thing would look ridiculous as hell, which is what the globe is.

Look at that graphic and imagine it with the earth curvature.

It looks very stupid, doesn't it?

Oh my goodness...

1. This thread is not to prove any other model of the earth other than the globe. Not my model or any other model. I have no model to prove. I only have a general assumption about certain elements about what I consider that the earth might be.

2. YOU on the other hand dogmatically insist that your model of the earth is TRUE FACT.

3. You, 88, Jay, Dinsdale, shutyomouth, B, others...

The Earth has a radius of approximately 3965 miles. Using the Pythagorean theorem, that calculates to an average curvature of 7.98 inches per mile or approximately 8 inches per mile (squared).

For your globe, which you tell me is FACT, is this accurate?

If it isn't, tell me what the real numbers are.
