Nice strawman arguement there Softball. I asked about it being visible at your house and not mine at the same time. Your response was to ignore that.

Re: Trump/GOP bullshit
Here's an idea, that's maybe too logical for the folks around here.
Next time there's a full moon, grab a ruler. Hold the ruler at arm's length and measure the diameter of the moon once when it's on the horizon and once when it's overhead.
Come back here and report the results.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that.88 wrote:I going to guess that some people are going to assert that due to the location of their shoulders, the position of the ruler is different relative to their eyes and that explains why the fucking moon is the same size in the sky as it is at the horizon.Mikey wrote:Here's an idea, that's maybe too logical for the folks around here.

We are not talking about a supermoon, we are talking about the moon illusion.
From NASA...
Why does a rising Moon look much bigger than the same Moon seen high in the sky during
the middle of the night? Turns out, it doesn’t—and we can blame the illusion on the way
our eye-brain combination behaves. Want proof that it’s just an illusion? Follow the steps
below for a do-it-yourself test...
https://moon.nasa.gov/observe-the-moon/ ... -it-rises/
The moon is bigger on the horizon than up in the sky.
NASA says this is what our eyes see.
Eject, Jay.

The Earth has a radius of approximately 3965 miles. Using the Pythagorean theorem, that calculates to an average curvature of 7.98 inches per mile or approximately 8 inches per mile (squared).
- David Senesac
http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/qq/databa ... dyck2.html
Hence the earth's surface curves approximately 8 inches in one mile. Look at our response to Shirley to see what happens after the first mile.
- Math Central
https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=l5I ... e.&f=false
The true level being a curve line which falls below the straight line of apparent level about 8 inches in one mile; 32 inches in two miles, etc., the curvature always augmenting in proportion to the square of the distance.
- The Complete Mathematical and General Navigation Tables
https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=ZE0 ... e.&f=false
The degree of convexity of the earth is, as nearly as can be stated in figures, 7 inches and 9/10ths of an inch, or nearly 8 inches in a mile.

Flat water.

Flat water.

etc...
Dumping into the Atlantic at 0 ft sea LEVEL.
Why doesn't the graphic show the water curving?
It shows the water continuously level.
How silly of them.
lol
A lot of earth curvature must occur over the span of 2212 miles on that gosh dern globe.
Funny...
That massive earth curvature is not represented at all on the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration model.
Fire someone!

Give me a break.
There is no earth curvature.
If they made this graphic according to the ridiculous globe, some people would look at Lake Superior curving over 379 miles -- water curving up, but then somehow falling down at the dam, and be like, "wtf?"
The whole thing would look ridiculous as hell, which is what the globe is.
Look at that graphic and imagine it with the earth curvature.
It looks very stupid, doesn't it?
