Usually moons that big are tiny dots when photographed, but last night's moon actually showed up large in photos. I don't know why that is. Perhaps a photographer can explain.

Those are gorgeous photos of the sky and mountains. Twilight and dawn in New Mexico are the reason why it's a land of enchantment, utterly otherworldly.

Does your wife know you're taking ass shots of her for the boys?

Last weekend we did a few more hikes.

Saturday we did long 10 mile hike. Decent views but also some snow to deal with on the Elliot Barker trail.

Sunday was a shorter hike as we had some things to do around the house. This one is outside of Taos off of Highway 518. We got into an area that had a fast moving Fire a year or so ago.

Yesterday we walked around old town Santa Fe. I had to go there for a few things at the capitol complex.

The first photo is the Palace of Governors. It is the oldest continuously occupied building in the States. It was built in 1610.

Sunday night into Monday we had a snow storm. Some Elk in the snow in Mama Seater’s yard.

Finally the sunset view from our AirBnB in Santa Fe.

So we are headed back to San Antonio and I am flying out Tuesday. We stopped at Palo Duro State Park and did some hiking. Palo Duro is the 2nd largest canyon system in the US.

Nice PET lefty.
Elk is the best meat you can eat. I buy about 60 pounds a year of elk burger, and back strap. Imagine the best steak or burger you have every had, multiple that times 5 and you have elk meat. It is getting pretty hard to harvest them in the woods doing the whole hunting thing, for me anyway and there is an elk ranch about 20 miles away. They have a waiting list to get meat from them.

Never had elk, but I understand it is leaner and more tender than cow.
I did have Buffalo🐃 burgers once, and didn't care for them. I'm guessing because Buffalo is a leaner meat, and I like a more juicy, flavorful burger.
But, the leaner meat is probably more healthy for you.

Haven't been anywhere or done anything much for the past couple of months. We cancelled a five day trip that we were supposed to take to Santa Barbara last week.

I have been spending more time than usual working in the yard. It's never ending but a good source of outdoor activity. There's too much for me ever to be really caught up but, unlike a lot of folks around here, I won't pay somebody to take care of it. The day it becomes too much is the day we downsize.

Things are starting to bloom now that it's springtime, and a lot that's green now will be brown in a few months.

This is the south side of our driveway, which has a lot of stuff that blooms in the spring. It's just getting started. That tree behind the purple salvia will be covered in yellow flowers in a few months.

Image

This is the north side of the driveway, looking down. A lot of those shrubs will be covered in white flowers by mid-summer.

This is from the bottom of the driveway, looking up. The Italian cypress just behind the fence used to be 50 feet (or more) tall. There's a whole line of them on that side of the driveway and we got sick of them, so we had them "shortened" last year. Prolly take them out completely this summer.

Image

This is also from the bottom of the driveway, looking south. Our next door neighbor still has those tall cypress trees, as do a lot of other homes around here.

Image

This is in the back yard. The Magic Shade Tree is covered with solar panels. Citrus trees up the steps to the right.

The hillside behind the pool. Taken from under the Magic Shade Tree. And no, the queen palm isn't growing out of the chiminea.

Opposite end of the pool, looking toward the north fence.

Having been in that backyard I am amazed that you handle all of the maintenance yourself.

It looks great though, outstanding job!

It got a lot easier when I stopped watering the three lawns.
