Mikey will be fine, others?
So it looks like CA will be facing major power outages this year as high transmission lines are going to be switched off in times of high wind to prevent wildfires. The outages could last up to 5 days at a time.
Props to Mikey for getting out in front of this. For everyone else get ready for the suck. Also, is there really no other way to prevent said fires without keeping your customers in the dark?

SB 1463 (it called for the burying of many power lines if local agencies were willing to help pay for it) would have gone a long way towards helping. Brown vetoed it. Why? Because he was a tard.

No wildfires in PB. Of course the real solution is to bury power lines in areas sucepectable to high winds and brush fires.

Re: Mikey will be fine, others?
I'm not all that prepared, yet.
My 8 kWh storage battery (once it's finally up and running) will only be configured for load shifting, and not for standby power. It has backup capability, but as a condition for getting it with no charge I have to let the program that installed it set the scheduling for the first year. Once the year is over I should have complete control where I can use it either for load shifting or standby power (charged during the day from my magic shade tree) or both. That will take installing a new sub-panel that has the critical circuits that I would want to keep on when the power is out (probably kitchen, bedroom, whole house fan, S&M dungeon, etc.).
For now, if the grid goes down then solar, battery, everything shuts down. This is required by the (every) utility so that there's no chance of a PV system feeding power back into a de-energized circuit if some maintenance guy is doing repairs. The system has the capability of "islanding" where it completely disconnects from the grid and operates independently, but the interconnection needs to be re-configured first.
Burying power lines would be a good idea, but pretty expensive. The CA utilities are now so paranoid of liability that they will be shutting circuits down whenever there's a big wind event.

Unfortunately shutting down power during big wind events is usually during a very warm Santa Ana, and doesn't account for the kook factor.
Once you've able to disconnect from the grid and recharge with solar etc you'll be all set Mikey, good for you. AC is a must when it's hot over night.

There has to be something I miss about living in CA.
I just haven't been able to figure out what it is.

No one is actually from California. It's just the end of the road for rootless, grifting transients in search of fortune.

I’m from California, my kids are from California, my mom, her father and his father were from California. Marty’s right for the most part though.
Re: Mikey will be fine, others?
I'm glad you're glad I'm happy.
I live in South Carolina on six grassy acres with room for our horses and dogs and cats. Where a major traffic jam is sitting behind three cars at a stop light. Where earthquakes and fires are a thing of the past. Where the whip-poor-wills sing at night, and the coyotes leave us alone. Where people go out of their way to be polite and friendly. Where the airport displays a John Deere tractor in the lobby. Where it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy gasoline or electricity. Where people don't give me the stink eye every time I light up a cigarette. I lived in CA for sixty-three years, and I know what I'm missing, and what I'm not missing. And I'm definitely not missing CA. I should've moved years ago.in whatever flyover redneck heaven you moved to.
I'm sure you do. :)I just wish more of you would leave.

I'm currently being treated for it with medical-grade cannabis and massage therapy.
