i would think that white balls would work better as they reflect more heat back into the atmosphere. I would think those balck balls would warm the water more causing more evaporation as well as increased bacteria problems.

Also, toolio would be more tempted to jump in and massage/lick them.

Guess what folks, a lot of reservoirs storing potable water are covered to minimize evaporation and contamination, especially some of the smaller local storage facilities.

This seems like a quicker and probably cheaper way to accomplish the same thing, at least the evaporation part.

Regarding the color, evaporation has a lot more to do with surface area exposed to air and wind than any temperature increase that might be caused by the color of the balls. My understanding is that the black color comes from making the balls UV resistant, which is required to keep them from breaking down in the sunlight.

Amazing what a little knowledge will do in the fight against rampant ignorance.

Seems as though the floating pool cover idea is better, but who knows. The good thing about the balls, is they are easy to install, simply dump them and they will spread out all by themselves. And they could be recovered, maybe run through the wash, easily as well.

You should try some water on yours occasionally. You might notice fewer people walking the other way.

If you want to take good care of your car, you regularly wash it and wax it. I rest my case.

Fucking water is going to cost you more than Dom Perignon before much longer!
Absolutely. And the Dom has a nice tingle to it.
