R.I.P. Pete Seeger

Post by Jay in Phoenix »

Looks like we lost another one. Pete Seeger just passed after an extended illness. He was 94.

Seeger popularized the anthem, "We Shall Overcome", a civil rights legend.

Also wrote the song "Turn! Turn!Turn!", co-wrote "If I had a Hammer" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", and is not the father of Bob Seger.

Which is essentially a cover of Bible verses, from the book of Ecclesiastes if I'm not mistaken.

No, I'm not looking it up.

More importantly, he told HUAC to go fuck themselves.

Good recollection Brian, I had forgotten about that. You have to admire him standing up to the HUAC the way he did.

And Wags, you're correct about Ecclesiastes. Beautiful song, especially the cover from the Byrds.
