Hot enough for you?

Post by War Wagon »

yes, it's time for another stupid weather thread...

so I get in the car after work today and the temp is reading 113. ok I'm parked in the sun, once I get moving it'll drop... it did, to 109. This is actual outside ambient air temperature, not heat index. It stayed at 109 until I got about 10 miles north, by then it had dropped to 105, where it remains.

I've been on this planet half a century and I've never seen it get this hot, at least not in June. They were saying the record for KC on this date was 107 in 1936.

Thank God I don't have to work in the heat anymore, not sure I could take it. But I feel sorry for those who do. And as hot as it is here, at least we don't wildfires threatening to burn down our doublewides. The worst thing we have to worry about is rolling brownouts and those suck too.

Yeah, nothing to worry about a bit. It's not as if you aren't pretty much right in the fast lane of tornado alley.

It must be really hot in all the red states considering all the melting that's going on there....

Tornado season pretty much ends in these parts by June but I'd take a good old fashioned beatdown from a microburst right about now. At least there'd be some rain and it would cool down for a few hours before the humidity went off the charts.

Remember, there is no such thing as global warming. We should all be thankful that the Republicans are there to explain to us that global warming is just part of a socialist agenda to corrupt America.
Why would you change my quote from June to July? That doesn't make much sense.

But I knew the global warming/climate change shrieks were coming.

It was hotter in 1936. The globe may be warming, but I believe it's cyclical in nature and certainly not attributable to man made actions nor can it be remedied by such.

Two words, Wags: Nineteen. Eighty. We went like 19 straight days over 100. I was painting houses that summer to earn some college coin. We haven't had ambient hunnerts in these parts in at least a half-a-dozen years - count your blessings. Oh, and go water your tomatoes.

What is a stupid weather thread without stupid weather smack?

I rolled home a bit ago and it is a balmy 72-74 or so with humidity hovering around 60%. Had to open up all the doors and windows to let the light afternoon ocean breeze come through.

I remember 1980 quite well now that you mention it, Tru.

I was lucky in that I was stationed at Offut AFB outside Omaha by then and it was a bit cooler 3 hours north... but not much. And I'm telling you that there aren't many places hotter (or colder) than a flight line of 3 million cubic yards of concrete.

But I remember hearing all the stories of people who died from the heat in KC that year. But that was in July, we haven't got there yet. This year could be just as bad, or worse.

Jsc, Bsmack, etc. are hoping it's worse so they can score some brownie points

Speaking of humidity, I thought it was bad here once upon a time... until I visited my brother in Memphis. In August.

An absolute smothering blanket of suck the life out of you wish your were dead humidity.

No, it will never be humid in KC compared to that.

when it's 97 below zero in January, it's weather, not climate. when it's 107 in june, it's proof of "climate change".

As I recall, 1936 was an anomaly cause by the Dust Bowl disaster that turned the eastern US into a giant easy bake oven.

Of course anomalies only happen once. Especially in Ace Frehley albums. I've been down here for over ten years now and have never seen the air temperature get to 100º. Where I am, there is almost always either a sea breeze or land breeze to keep things just nice and cozy. Having a solar heated pool helps even in those colder days.

I've been working in Southern Oregon... in fact, the hottest place in Southern Oregon.

Hasn't been too bad, yet. Low to mid 90's, often accompanied by a strong bone-dry wind.

Not a big deal -- except I'm working outside in the sun, all day, every day, with several weeks to go.

And triple-digits are pretty normal there this time of year.

The tan is coming along nicely.

Grants Pass ?..tends to be a hit hotter than Medford..great area, especially the sights at the parks and along the Rouge River on those hot days. Not a bad place to live. I was working down there and it was going to be 108 degrees that day. Drove 80 miles to the coast. 69 degrees.

When the heat inversion comes into the Rouge Valley, it is pretty fuckin hot. I stopped at the tackle shop on 199 in Grants Pass headed over to Crescent City, one time, to get some gear to hit the Smith River, fucking thermometer showed 112 degrees. Pretty good party area over there on the Smith, can remember the name of the bridge, just look for the cars and bikini clad women.

we actually had some storms move thru the northern parts of the city just before midnight last night. The temp dropped about 15 degrees in 15 minutes and sweet mother of jesus we got maybe a 1/4" of glorious rain. I sat on the porch and watched it roll in.

I turned off the A/C for the first time in a week and cranked up the attic fan. Went to bed with the soothing sound of thunder crashing in the distance which is like a lullaby to me.
