MONTREAL - Several 911 operators in Montreal have received unusual calls this week from people wishing to file complaints over Tuesday night's violent hit on Habs forward Max Pacioretty, police confirm.

The complaints were mainly coming in on Wednesday, said Montreal police Constable Olivier Lapointe, and have died down considerably since then.

Police are reminding the public that 911 should only be used in emergencies <<---

Lapointe did not say how many calls were received.

Pacioretty, 22, was checked by Boston Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara and went flying head-first into the metal support on the glass separating the teams' benches. He suffered a fractured vertebra and a severe concussion.

Later in the day, the NHL announced that Chara would not be suspended as a result of the hit, prompting outrage among many fans and sports commentators.

My Long Island native friend is IRATE the league didn't suspend Chara not even for a single game. I completely and totally disagree. It's not like Chara lined him up from the red line and hit him from behind into the boards. Freak accident, to say the least. The video doesn't even show Chara intended it by "driving" his head into the partition.

Skating towards a corner after the puck doesn't seem sinister. His body only assumed a checking position when he was less than ten feet away, makes your 'thirty foot, intent to injure' campaign worthy of a Montreal 911 call.

10 feet or 30 feet doesn't hide the fact that Eaton has his back to Pacioretty the entire time. That was much worse than what Chara did to Pacioretty.

What's Pacioretty supposed to do, chase the puck slowly and backwards from centre ice? He followed the puck and committed to the hit at the bottom of the face off circle. Not sure what planet Eaton was on, he knew he was there, he should have known he'd get hit.
