When is it OK to root against your team?

Post by Q, West Coast Style »

Is it ever? I must admit I'm looking at the Wazzu-Montana State game tomorrow and thinking that a loss to the FCS Bobcats might get the "Fire Wulff" movement over the hump.

that was a much discussed question on Colorado boards this off-season.

Look, Oklahoma went through Shenlly and Blake, I was at every home game and stuck with them, so yeah never, faith and being true to your team pays off.

When I wanted to get rid of Callahan in 2007, I rooted for them, but I felt fairly certain that they would lose every game anyway. I was just hoping they didn't embarrass us, which they did in several games. If it's inevitable, it'll happen whether you root against your team or not.

It's certainly something I've considered in recent years, but I don't think I could ever actively root against the Buffs. It does kind of take a little bit of the sting out of a loss, though, if it means that your shitty coach is one step closer to being ousted. In that sense, it's kind of a no-lose proposition.

Q, you'll be back sooner or later, and you seem to be improving (on paper anyway).

If you were still the worst D1 team, I'd say "hate away," but since I think you probably lost that title (sup New Mexico), you need to catch the improvement wave and ride it.

Your Rose Bowls weren't that long ago.

BTW -- I want to see Wazzu improve, too. The better the conference (and probably same division next year), the better for everyone -- a high tide raises all the boats.

I will say this - if Colorado is going to lose, I'd rather see them get blown the fuck out than lose a close one.

ISU just got their initial first down with 8:30 minutes to go in the first half. Maybe things are looking up.

I think he was referring to Va Tech.

Meanwhile, it looks like I might get my wish as well. :(

I have often questioned the coaching...but I've never rooted against my team, never will.
