Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

What would it be? Forget about the target audience, and all that noise. Just put one recommendation in this thread.

TIA.

Pretty much everything by Christopher Moore. But since you asked for just one, this was the one I last read.

A DIRTY JOB

It's an engaging, touching and funny as hell look at death. Chris Moore is a completly unique author, and my favorite.

first thing that popped in my head, prolly a little too Roman history geek, academic but Sir Ronald Syme's The Roman Revolution. A scholarly, fairly macho history of the fall of the Republic. A classic. it's a haul but really allsome....if you've got some Tacitus and Polybius under your belt.

I have that one. Read it partly and then put it down in favor of another. Perhaps I should re-explore.

You don't read much, do you?

Books. They're not just what the 7th grade english teacher was mean and made you read between your favorite tv shows. Just sayin'.

With a sentence like that, I'm wondering if you made it past the 7th grade yourself.

They (books) are not just what (that which) the 7th grade english teacher (who, in your eyes) was (being) mean and made (forced) you (to) read between your favorite tv shows.

Fixed that so it is a sentence that you can understand, taking into account your obvious lack of knowledge with regards to phonics, Jimbo.

Absolutely was. I love Homicide TV as much as I do the Wire. WGN still shows Homicide from 2-3p EST, so if you have DVR, you should check it out. I was too young to get it when Homicide was on NBC (I remember my parents used to watch it religiously), but I started getting into the Wire during its run and when I found out Simon was responsible for Homicide TV, I started watching it. Addicting shit. Simon does a great job portraying Baltimore: a beautiful city with a lot of heart but some very deep and dark problems.

Going great. Currently have two scripts at Selective Entertainment in Glendale, California. Am waiting for word back on them. Haven't been doing much marketing this month as I've been focusing on my work output. However, should focus on that after I've finished with my current work load of editing one script and writing on another. Thanks for asking.

Born in Blood, John J. Robinson.

The only book linking Freemasonry to the Knights Templar that wasn't written by a complete whack job. Very interesting shit; especially concerning the Peasants Revolt in England.

I never would have guessed there’s a market for TV shows/movies written in chuckanese. Fascinating.

Ahhhhh, one more... 'True North'- Jim Harrison.
Many of his books are set in Michigan, which this one is (the UP). Takes you through the life of a young boy to adulthood whilst in a terribly dysfunctional family.

Frankly, I haven't read one bad Jim Harrison book. One of my favorite authors.

That is actually something Moore would find funny.

The guy just has a unique spin on things. Most of the books he writes are based on his own personal experiences, from a research standpoint. His work on both "Fluke" and "Lamb" were meticulous in their detail from a scientific and historical perspective. He also has a way of weaving characters in and out from book to book, creating a sort of universe that's connected and seperate at the same time.

His stuff is laugh out loud worthy. It is also intelligent and thoughtful.

He has a new book coming out in Feb. and I cannot wait. If you want to try something different from anything else out there, give his work a shot.

Or a poke.

Yeah, I believe it was Lamb that she was talking about. I'm pretty sure Moore went to Ohio State back in the day. That alone deserves some props.

and Klosterman is fun as a culture critic but his influences are Hunter Thompson and Lester Bangs as turn of phrase/culture critic. start there.
