Surf City Half-Marathon

Post by socal »

Wanted to run under 1 hour 45 minutes today my 45th birthday. Ran about 50 seconds over. Rather than go Toddowen, I'll celebrate the occasion with family, friends, food, and beer.

If I recall correctly, NorNev was a marathoner. Any of you fellow fatasses ('sup R-Jack) lace 'em up any more and pound the pavement?

My knees can't withstand the 13.1 mile beating. I've been getting into Olympic distance triathlons. The 10K run still hurts but I can suffer through it.

Props to you for an 8:00 pace for the half. Awesome job and happy birthday.

Happy 45th, socal. Nice job on the run today. I too am celebrating getting older today.

HBD Socal, and RACK your 1/2 marathon.

With my back, hip and knees lately I'd be lucky to run 1/2 mile.

I'll run vicariously through my boy.

Rack you, socal. No way in hell my knees would ever put up with that.

Mikey, you fat fukker, you ain't gonna get in shape watching that kid. Get your ass on a bike like I've done. You prolly want to look at recumbents though, given the back problems.

My goal this year is to do a century ride.

In!

Eight-oh-three over thirteen-one, socal? Well done! And not a bad way to celebrate number 45 either!

Lookin' at a pair of four milers and an 8K before toeing the line for this bad-boy:

When I was in High School I ran cross country for a year. Our coach used to make us run half marathons on our "distance days". It was brutal back then in 1981. I can't even imagine doing it now. Props on your time socal.

Fu- I can't swim to save my life. It takes enough time and energy to train for one event let alone three. Props to all you triathletes.

Rumps - Another day older and deeper in debt.

Jsc- I had this one on my calendar since November. Wanted to get 1:44:59 on my 45th. Guess I'll have to wait till next year. I hope you make it back to that 5K soon.

Mikey- I, too, run vicariously fast through my boy. He did little more that chuckle at me when we looked at results.

smackaholic- There's probably a ride or a hundred you could do here on the Left Coast. m2 and Van will tell you all about them. I'm told that the U & L has a century ride over Mt. Hood.

Truman- More like 8:05 but my last one was 8:17 per mile so I'm happy with the result.

Screw_Mich- Nobody dropping dead on the course. Of course, you weren't entered in it.

ElTaco- Marine Corps? That one looks awesome.

BSmack- Why not go back for an alumni run?

Rack the runners.

A few surgeries ago, I was finishing marathons and triathlons, I even finished one 50K race and three half-Ironman triathlons. Alas, my dream of finishing an Ironman race is over, and my distance running days are behind me now, but I still hold out hope that I'll be able to finish a 5K again. And if I can do a 5K, then I can go for a sprint distance triathlon again. :)

Hell bro, you can barely make it to the hospital and back these days.
