Maurice, Quenneville: OUT

The Maurice firing isn't that big of a surprise. Whomever their new GM will be, they'll want to bring in their guy. LeafNation were convinced they could walk in a steal away Burke from Anaheim or Holland from Detroit to rebuild their mess of a hockey club and have to deal with constant scrutiny of the fans and media in Toronto.

With Quenneville, he's been a decent coach through the years but has never been an elite coach. He looked like a dead man walking throughout Game 4 as the Wings picked apart his shorthanded hockey club. Injuries did hamper them in that series but he seemed to have no real gameplan to stop the Wings offense. Unless he thought they'd tire out after the first 40 or 50 shots...

The latest rumours swirling around about the Leafs is Dave Nonis coming in for year 1 with Burke coming next season, after his contract with the Ducks is up, to serve as his boss and the President of the team.

And since they're both very close friends... it's not that unlikely.

The Leafs number one objective for this season should be to gut the roster and lose every game possible.

Last place is the goal.

Yeah...you aren't getting Stamkos, might as well as aim for Taveras in the next draft.

Throw Ron Wilson on the pile as well...Sharks finally let him go.

He's been a very good regular season coach but he's failed in the postseason. I had a feeling an early exit would mean curtains for him.

Ron Wilson will be the next coach of the Maple Leafs.

And isn't it interesting that he and Brian Burke are long time close friends, as far back as from college...
The former college teammates in Providence worked together in Vancouver when Burke was the assistant GM, and Burke is the also the godfather of Wilson's daughter.
Hmmm... it does fit in with Burke's wife quitting her media job in Vancouver last week, freeing her up to take a position with the CBC here in Toronto...

Of course, Burke's still under contract to the Ducks so he couldn't possible be coming to Toronto.. even if everything that is being done points to the shelves being stocked as he would want them...

I had a feeling Wilson wouldn't unemployed for long. He's been quite successful with three different organizations...going to the finals with Washington. He's coached in three relatively light hockey markets...it'll be interesting to see how he handles the heat in Toronto.

joe thornton still owes wilson an apology for getting his ass canned. what a douche.

they need to abandon those new jerseys and go back to the "denver broncos/nike" style they had, those bad boys were epic and the new logo sucks as well. don't fukk with a good thing.
