John Lester

BIG TIME PROPS!! This kid is really awesome!!

For years he was the kid you heard about in the minors. The top prospect. When he finally got here he was ok, but not an ace it seemed. Cancer stikes and I am pretty sure that he will never be the same after that.

Not only was he that, but BETTER!! It seems like that battle took a weight off his shoulders when he pitches. Kinda like....."well I beat cancer so what is the worst that could happen??" Could not have happened to a better guy!!

Look out AL!! The Sox not only have the money, but the talent in the minors as well. Lester, Bucholz, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Masterson going today. It's a good time to be Sox fan.....

I watched the whole game last night, and that dude was flat out UNHITTABLE. I really believe that he would've done that to most AL teams last night, not just the Royals. His stuff was simply THAT filthy. Props to Lester for a dominating performance.

Yeah, and in his next start he'll probably get shelled.

Props to him anyway. Only the 2nd time the Royals have ever been no-hit, the first time being in 1973 by Nolan Ryan. Pretty good company.

I wouldnt be surprised to see the Padres get no hit several times this season.

RACK the guy for his gem, though.

Aw, Lax! Cut it out! I might start to feel bad for your team!
in my total immaturity, I have been enjoying watching the Yankees SUCK!

but to hear you say it... makes me wish for the days when our teams were rivals.

Red Sox vs. Devil Rays rivalry is just not the same.. nowhere close.

*Yes, they will always be the Devil Rays to me, as they should!

On Jon Lester...

Great game! Great Story!

The kid not only beats cancer and returns to pitching in the major leagues, He wins game 4 of the World Series and pitches a no hitter.
You can't make stuff up that's better than that!

He could have been traded to the Twins along with Ellsbury for Johann Santana!

I am glead that Sox did not make that trade.

Santana is head and shoulders better than Lester. Santana is also better on a team than Ellsbury.

However, Santana is not worth the 2 of them and not when you consider salary, age and potential.

Lester will have his ups and downs. He may always be a middle of the rotation guy but I am damn glad we kept him.

This thread is titled John Lester (actually Jon) but Jason Varitek deserves a TON of credit!

Jason Varitek has caught 4 no hitters in his career with the Red Sox.
NO CATCHER IN THE HISTORY OF THE MAJOR LEAGUES HAS EVER CAUGHT 4 NO HITTERS!!
except Jason!

Rack John Lester! Rack Jason Varitek! Rack the Red Sox Rotation! Rack the Boston Red Sox!
Rack the Red Sox ownership! Rack Boston Sports!

and Rack everyone who has ever served in a uniform!

Enjoy your Memorial Day!

That concrete pile of shit is our turf. Don't forget it............
The A's smacked the BoSox back to reality!! I will give them props!

When I was stationed at the Presidio (many years ago), I liked going to A's games. It is nothing like Fenway in that it is in a parking lot and not surrounded by a city. There are no Bars right across the street or vendors grilling sausage sandwiches. But it was a decent stadium with plenty of room to sit in a nice park. The A's were pretty decent back then (90-93). and there was no Red Sox Nation ...

Speaking of...

Red Sox Nation phenomena is f*cking crazy!! I would never have imagined that Red Sox fans could overwhelm so many ball parks across the nation!!

Outside Fenway Park, where the Red Sox play, there are vendors who grills sausages, peppers, and onions and fold them into a soft roll. There are bars, gift shops, people....

Yep.

The Royals flaccid offense makes damn near every pitcher they face look like a Cy Young candidate. No surprise then that when Lester faces a team of real ML hitters, he gets knocked around.

I'll tell you what...

why don't you be a pioneer Jack, and open up a hot dog stand/memorabilia booth right outside of Oakland/Alameda?

Make sure to keep plenty of cash on hand, in case you need to make change for big bills.

Nope.

I just figured it would be a good place for Jack to be flashing some cash around.
