next VP ?

Post by Wolfman »

This guy carried the water for a property tax proposal that passed the vote easily on Tuesday. He should carry the state and its all important electoral votes. At age 52 by election day and John McCain's running mate---

Depending on who wins...

Clinton/Obama

She has too many negatives in her own party, she needs to unify her base.

McRINO/Huckster

The only way the Dems pet republican wins is if it goes to the convention, he'll need the bribe to get Huckster's votes.

Obama/Schumer

Because he isn't too bright.

Romney/Kyl

Because that would make me look positively genius.

No. There is a rift that will need to be healed between the two, but if the ticket is to accomplish it, the running mate probably will have to be a surrogate. Daschle or Kerry -- the two highest-profile figures to endorse Obama, other than Kennedy, who definitely wouldn't be on the ticket -- are possibilities in that regard.
Obama/Schumer
Again, no. I got a robo call over the weekend from Schumer (or a really good imitator) in support of Hillary. Assuming that was done with his approval, he obviously supports Hillary. Again, there's a possibility of an "olive branch" selection as running mate, but I don't think Schumer is far enough into Hillary's inner circle to accomplish this. If Obama is the choice, and decides to go this route, I think the choice would be Wes Clark.

Other possibilities:

John Edwards -- Depending on what he does, and who gets the nomination. I'm also not sure if he'd be interested in running for VP again.
James Webb -- Would probably be the frontrunner, at least in a vacuum. But a lot depends on who will be the nominee.
Bill Richardson -- I hate to play the race card, but he's probably a more likely choice if Hillary is the nominee. I'm afraid that an Obama/Richardson ticket would appear to be too ethnic for many voters.
Christopher Dodd or Joe Biden -- Possible, but unlikely. Both have safe Senate seats and reside in small states that are likely to go Democratic in the Presidential election in any event.
Al Gore -- I don't think so, but I throw his name out there only because you know some pundit will at some point, especially if Hillary is the nominee.

On the Republican side, I see McCain probably taking Huckabee. It would shore up his credentials with conservative voters, and also gives him a running mate who's considerably younger than he is. If McCain does choose a Florida governor, it's more likely to be Jeb than Crist. If Jeb's ego allows him to be the running mate, that is.

You're a fucking moron. That ticket will guarantee conservatives stay home. Huckabee is a Christian Socialist.

There are no conservative Republicans in the running.
What you mean to say is that there are no Republicans running who match the alleged Reagan ideal of being social, fiscal and national defense conservatives. Huckabee would help to bring social conservatives back to the fold, especially were Hillary to be nominated.

That being said, my dark horse VP for McCain is Lieberman. He's a lame duck Senator, he's already endorsed McCain, and McCain might as well make use of his maverick reputation to try to poach some Dem votes out of the Northeast.

That's what most fiscal conservatives say. But try telling a social conservative you're both pro tax cuts and pro-choice and see how far you get.

Be that as it may, in common parlance, they're referred to as "social conservatives" and have been embedded in the GOP like Geraldo in a sand dune since the late 70s. Reagan's acquiescence to their demands was a major factor in my very Hillary like transformation from and Alex P. Keaton Republican to dyed in the wool Democrat.

...which is what he mistakenly describes as a fiscal conservative. Actual fiscal conservatives obsess about trade 'deficits' national debt and immigration issues over free trade, minimimizing tax and regulatory burdens and economic growth. I don't think he'll take it, but I wouldn't be shocked to see McCain try to grab Fred. They're friends and that gives him a bonafide tri-con in his camp. However, I don't think Fred has any desire to be veep.

Romney isn't winning anything.

McCain's got the nomination wrapped up. Sad to say.

Any other mod-cons planning on putting their vote in their pocket this time? I might just do that. McCain does little for me. Any dem leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Oh, btw, Hillary won't get Obama. I think he's readied himself nicely for '12. She'll get the nomination but lose in the general election. He'll batter McCain one on one. Oh great. Lucky us.

God of our fathers, known of old--
Lord of our far-flung battle line
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine--
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget - lest we forget!

The tumult and the shouting dies;
The captains and the kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget - lest we forget!

Far-called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire:
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget - lest we forget!

If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe--
Such boasting as the Gentiles use
Or lesser breeds without the law--
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget - lest we forget!

For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard--
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding, calls not Thee to guard--
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord!

Looks like the ticket of death.

He'll no doubt grab someone fairly young and energetic looking.

McFlame's gonna have a major hurdle to overcome in the general, in that Hitlery is going to grab BOTH California and New York -- ouch.

He's gonna have to kick total @ss in the south and midwest.

Good luck.

I'd agree except for one thing: Reagan's idea of drug "education" (or at least his wife's) was "just say no." Hardly a liberal idea when it comes to education.

More correctly, Reagan was a reactionary.

Well maybe you can tell us which of the subsequent ones empowers the federal government to meddle in any way with education?

It really is time to start prosecuting and jailing members of Congress who break their oath (which for most of them, is the first day on the job). If the Constitution doesn't grant the fed a particular power -- it's unconstitutional to exercise said power -- that simple, although corporate interests make big money by getting congressmen to say "but that's not what the Constitution means," regardless of it being in black and white.

Same goes for abortion -- states' issue.

Same goes for education -- states' issue.

Same goes for almost anything the fed does these days -- completely unconstitutional... but the Constitution isn't in Big Brother's better interest, so it gets ignored.

Funny, the Constitution provides for a group to make judgments regarding the meaning and application of the Constitution.

I take it you're not down with the Supreme Court?

I could see either but I really think he might go with a minority running mate regardless of Collin Powell. I'd look for Michael Steele, Condi Rice, or J.C. Watts to get some play.

If that asshole is the running mate I might actually consider voting for Obama or Clinton!!!
Damn, how the fuck did Crist generate that kind of hatred? Did he tell you that you're a sinner?
No he has spent his entire political career screwing single fathers!!! Unless we catch the baby's mom smoking crack with the kid in their arms we can't even prevent them from moving across the continent on us if they can pull a measly $300 more a month in income somewhere else. Only being mildly irresponsible, never having a job, and still living with your parents at the age of 30+ are now bonuses in the State of Florida because of his legislation.
