Play to win, or step aside

Post by PSUFAN »

This youtube clip is interesting:

Paterno requires the zone defense in these situations. Is the red zone really a good spot to play your CBs 12 yards off the ball?

Henne had 2-3 wide open WRs on that play, and that was against 6 defenders. All he had to do was pick the biggest cushion - Zemaitis - and hit Manningham.

WTF? My fellow PSU fans will assure us until they're blue in the face that UM won because of bad officiating...I guess playing 10-12 yards off the LOS wasn't the reason?

Jiminy Fucking Crickets.

Its a death race between Bowden and Paterno.

Neither is going to quit until the other dies even if both are drooling idiots.

What the shame is both are icons and have done amazing jobs at each school.

Bowden's post game interviews are just plain scary. How is this guy running a major D-I program?

Unless all you are trying to stop is the 20yd gain it is stupid playing-off that far. Reminds me of shit I see from Neb's current coaches, playing off a guy on 3rd and 5 just begs for the quick-slant for an easy 1st down.

Manningham is badass and he can burn you. But if you play way off him what are you going to stop except the long-ball?

You can play zone without being so passive. Neb's '03 team played tons of zone and covered damn-well while doing it.

It took me a few years beofre I had the stomach to rewatch that clip. That's definitely the biggest cushion I've ever seen given.

The only reason to give a cushion is if you're sure that the WR will beat you in a sprint down the field. Manningham trotted 8 yards and won that game.

Joe - hello?

But isn't that more on Sandusky? And if it is, and he takes over the program as some think, that problem could still be there after Joe is gone.

You mean Bradley - and no. Bradley has a lot of autonomy, but not 100%. Joe (as he calls it) "sticks his nose in" and dictates certain things.

In the 2003 Boston College game, PSU got burned early on a safety blitz. Since that game, Joe has been overly concerned with the long pass. In this year's IU and OSU games, the opponent abused that soft coverage so badly that Joe was forced to address it and allow some man/hard cover 2 against Purdue.

I think if Bradley is the successor, we'll see a more flexible approach from the defense.

A little respect please and although I hope Bobby decides to hang it up soon, the man is not a drolling idiot. His post game interviews are a little rough but Bobby for the most part is still engaging and fun to talk to. He still is a hit w/ boosters and recruits.

Bowden said postgame that the doctors wouldn't let "CHRIS" back in.....

Who is Chris?

Rix or Weinke?

That's really sad dude. Get him outta there already. It's embarrassing. I felt bad for him.
