Nice run Pistons

Post by WolverineSteve »

What a fantastic 4 year ride it has been for the Pistons.

Thank you Joe D for assembling this group of outcasts. You've made many a brilliant move, including passing on Carmello to choose Darko. You recognized that Prince would be a premiere player in this league, so Melo would get very little floor time. Darko may still turn out to be a solid player (he's only 21 or so).

Thank you Rick Carlisle. You took a struggling franchise and brought them back to respectability. Winning 50 games each of your 2 seasons in town. You started the trend of playing great defense.

Thank You Larry Brown. Thanks for making Chauncey into a great point guard. Thanks for guiding the team to 2 Finals appearances and the title two years ago. I don't care much for your shenanagins, but you get a pass for bringing home the hardware.

Thank You Mr. Davidson. One of the classiest owners in sports. Thanks for demanding loyalty of your employees. Thanks for allowing the front office to make the move to make this franchise elite. Thanks for having the foresight to let Isiah go, and hand the team over to Joe D.

Thanks to the players. You took back Detroit from the Red Wings. Pistons fever was rampant. Lunch pail guys like Big Ben coud run for mayor. Rasheed matured and is a solid citizen (for now at least, Dins). Thanks for your tireless effort Rip. Mr. Big Shot has emerged. Tayshaun's developing into an all-star. Thanks for your defensive swarming Lindsey, you changed games with your all out effort. Thanks for all the hard work McDyess. Good to see you play all 82 games injury free.

An interesting stat. During the run the Pistons played over 80 playoff games. That's an entire season. So as the book closes on the 2006 Pistons the question begs. Was it fatigue? They've played more ball than any team over the past 4 years. Was it Flip? Dude has a rich resume of post-season shortcomings. Did the other teams just figur us out? Who knows. I think it's a combination of many factors. The Heat were very hungry, and played as such. They had revenge on their minds after losing game 7 at home last year. Detroit looked tired and beaten for alot of the series. It will be interesting going forward. Does Dumars sign Ben Wallace (Free agent). As great as he is Detroit has played 4 on 5 on offense during this great run. How would KG look in our scheme? I know this, Joe D is not afraid to pull the trigger. We will be back.

Go Pistons.

They showed class by hanging around and congratulating the Heat players, instead just walking off. Doesnt seem to be any bad blood between the two teams.
