I think it is because the GOP thread had gone over the weekly political thread limits in LWD that is the issue. Once you crest 100 political threads, I think the LWD machine randomly selects a thread to bounce out of here.
If it were up to me I would have a political forum where people could hash this stuff up without irritating anybody else. Maybe I'd recruit two moderators that stand on opposite sides of the isle, like, oh...mvscal and Bushice. Or Martyred and OCMike. They would be good ones. Or have Bsmack and mvscal...that would be for some great fireworks and readings.

You can't move the Kennedy thread because of several reasons, the biggest being that the next morning the person responsible for such a heinous mistake wouldn't ....
