Dude....take away the gut, and that's me. Seriously.

Massive freaking backswing, hitting my left ankle, with a smoke hanging from my mouth.

So, that said -- I'd say "freak" is a little harsh.

i love how on the deadspin link, all these bitches are claiming "i don't understand how JD pulls the women..." uh, hello. he's a pro golfer.

JD is truly your average man who happened to win two majors and is coasting on his success. he's just happy to be living the life he is.

You're basing this on your years and years of involvement with athletics?

What blood vessel broke in your brain to make you think you of all people are qualified to comment on what is or isn't a sport?

Golf is very much a sport. A rather difficult one, at that. And as a sport, oddly enough, by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around, the fatboys have usually taken a big nosedive and tank, due to fatigue.

Matter of fact, if you had any idea what you're talking about(not your style), you'd know that most of the guys who have dominated the world rankings for the last few years are mostly jocks who work out. Like in baseball and football, there's guys who have enough talent that they can often make up for their lack of conditioning (sup Big John, Phil, and Ernie) with masses of talent. On the other side, you have Tiger, who I'm quite convinced would have more than excelled at any sport he cared to take an interest in, Vijay, who has always been in excellent shape, Goose, who works out pretty hardcore, and so on and so forth.

Additionally, if you knew what you were talking about and really played any golf, you'd realize what ungodly strength Tiger has for a man of his build. I'm sure anyone who here who knows the game understands the amazing sickness it takes to cream a ball out of the deep rough like TW does. Mere mortals would tear their arms out of their freaking sockets trying what He does, but not only does Tiger maintain his crazyass club speed, but he generally makes a decent shot, too, which just brings the shock and awe every time he pulls it off.

And on that note, I have vowed to never again debate, with others, or within my brain, who is better -- Jack or Tiger. I have decided, for myself, that they're different but equal. The time machines are all busted at present, so nobody will really know. Some people claim Jack faced tougher competition in his day, but who's to say that Ernie and Vijay wouldn't put a whoopin on Watson, Palmer and a host of other greats? They both walked on to the bigboy course and proved in no uncertain terms that they were men amongst boys.

Two truly great champions of their era, and both exude all of the class and grace that one hopes for in a champion. RACK both of them.

I think that when all is said and done (and certainly to this point in their respective careers) most people will have to agree that Tiger has been the more dominant player and definitely the more dominant force in the game.

Jack was Jack but even Jack didn't put the fear of god into people the way Tiger does whenever he's near the front heading into Sunday. Tiger almost literally has most of his competition mentally playing for second place if he's wearing red and he's got a sniff of the top of the leader board.

I believe Tiger's also outpacing Jack in terms of age/majors/tour titles, and, lest we forget, there's also that whole Wives/'Bode Factor.

I'll amend my statement:

Take away the gut and the mullet, and that's me. I usually take a bigger backswing than that, though. Actually, I've shortened it up a bit over the years, but I still get past parallel. Probably not the best technique...but my brain is wired for power, not some pansy-ass girly game. If I have to pull out a freaking 5 iron to go 170 yards before my 60th birthday, I'm tossing my bag in the lake. I'm definitely from the "I'm driving that 330 yard green, or bust." Which...you've played...is golf code for "bust." But dammit, I'm hitting that green, or the old fart in the cart 3 fairways over...one of the two.

And this is why I suck.

Man, it's too bad there isn't a golf forum here.

Actually, it's coming around.

I think I ight have mentioned some health problems at some point, which left me kinda frail and emaciated. That seems to be coming to an end, but now my strength and flexiblity are in a constant state of change, which makes it damn tough to golf consistantly.

But when I get fully back into shape here, watch the hell out. I will be the FREAKING MAN!!!

I wasn't the FREAKING MAN before the health issues, but I just decided, for myself, that I will be now. I'm kinda arbitrarily epic like that.

But really, I've battled such a slew of minor-to-more-serious injury/body issues over the last few years, I don't remember what it's like to be able to swing the same way for more than a couple of weeks straight. Oh well. I am golfing worse now than when I completely blew up my lower back, but decided golf was worth the pain and played anyway.

I'll be back. This is for certain.

dins,

Ifyou swing like fatboy and you have lower back trouble, you are a maroooon.

Bac in '85, I was playing the most frequent and bestest golf of my life, thanks to insanely cheap, navy course greens fees. I would regularly break 80. Anyway, I used to play with this senior chief who had a bad back. because of this bad back, he had virtually no torso turn in his backswing. Dude prolly needed a tailwind to hit it much over 200 yds. But, he beat me like a rented fukking mule on a regular basis, because he was down the middle every fukking time and he had a lethal short game. Hell, his entire game was a short game.

After watching this guy, I am fairly certain that the best thing that could ever happen to 90% of us hacks is a slipped disk.

I too have suffered with a life long tendency to try to touch the ground with my backswing. I have gotten it partially under control after reading some shit about tiger and how he generates his sick power. He coils his torso like nobody else. What I mean by that is, he doesn't have a big hip turn. He does however have a big shoulder turn. This causes his torso to twist more. I tried this and found that by restricting the hip turn, it held my backswing to something near or maybe even less than horizontal. Ofcourse, it probably would blow your back out, but, it's worth thinking about anyway.

As to whether or not it has improved my game, I really can't say, because I just don't have the time/funds to play enough to find out.

Damn, I miss the Millington Naval Air Station golf course and it's 18 dollars a month membership. I figured that it cost me between twenty five and fitty cent a round to play that summer.

Casual PGA fans/nonfans probably don't realize Tiger generates so much power on th downswing, it literally blew his knee up...twice. That's kinda why his stellar pace slowed down for a couple of years there.

But my lower back healed (again). Right now, my middle/lower back is kinda fucked, but I believe it's due to my very-rapidly growing muscles, since after being essentially malnourished, I'm getting much better and gaining some weight again. I think the muscles in my lower back have added about an inch of thickness in the last two weeks, and I think this explosive growth is messing with my spine. I see this getting better in a big hurry once my muscles.weight/whatnot stablize a little, so I'm not too worried about it. It's not like a full-on pinched nerve or anything.

And the last time I had a major lower back blowout, I played through it and dropped quite a few 300 bombs off the tee, when I was able to keep the snappies away. It was either going a country mile up trhe middle, or taking a hard left a short distance up the fairway.

RACK Golf.

RACK Tiger.

RACK Jack (Van is an idiot-btw)

RACK T1B.

I'll go to the race card.

Because Daly is a white man he often gets trumpeted as an 'everyman' who's playful, cute, fun-lovin' and regular.

Truth be told he's a fat lazy out-of-shape dickhead who's attitude is often that of a 5 yr old who needs a nap.

Fuck him.

Anyone with a son feel like telling him to emulate the loser...?

Blessed with enormous talent, he's shit the bulk of his career down the crapper.

Makes me ill to look at the jerk off.

I know where you're coming from, but you're doing a disservice to the memory of the great Babe Ruth by making that comparison.

Ruth managed to be the dominant force in his sport, all while livin' large.

Daly has done no such thing.

He's an after-thought.

Daly has had more embarassing personal 'troubles' than the Bambino had, plus he's had numerous meltdowns IN THE ARENA, something Ruth never had.

Plus the Babe didn't sport a gut for the majority of his career. He did pork out in 1925, whereupon he began working out in the offseason (something Daly refuses to do). Only in the last 4 or so years of his career (when his production began to slide) did the the potbelly we now associate with him become a permanent feature. This is a closer representation of Ruth in his prime.

Daly is Golf's Shaq, pre-Kobe rape trial?

Shaq is also playful, cute, fun-lovin' and regular,
but I've never heard him referred to as 'everyman'.
And Shaq doesn't smoke.

Is Daly trying to kill himself? or is he just trying
to present an image of 'I am cool' by having a
dick substitute between his lips?

Is is possible for Daly to get his ass in shape at this point?

Babe Ruth played during a segregated era. There should be a shit load of asterisks next to his name.... asterisks which are much more deserving than that placed next to Mr. Roger Maris.

Babe Ruth dominant among white players? sure, why not.

Babe Ruth dominant among all players? Hell no.

Besides, did Babe Ruth have fields built towards his advantage, or
fields built to try to curb his advantages?

Wasn't the game of basketball changed to 'fence in' folks like Wilt Chamberlain, the ABA players, present more of a challenge, and (like with the 3point rule) give the little dudes more of a chance so they're
not continually being beat down by the Big Dudes, cageball style?

So what happened in baseball? (besides the automatic 'built towards advantage' of barring an entire group of players)
on a short leash, apparently.

Does race need to make it into every argument?? Babe Ruth is arguably the greatest baseball player of all-time and would have put those numbers up regardless if the blacks were allowed to play. Blacks have been in MLB for 50 years, and only one has surpassed his record.

What was the quality of play with those Ruth played against, versus the quality of play those who were barred against playing against Ruth?

The parks he played in were freaking huge. A lot bigger than the fields they have today. If he would have played in today's stadiums, he would have at least 800 HR's.

In one season, he led the majors in HR's. No, not just against the other players, but he out homered every team by himself.

Yeah, I'm sure opposing teams were figuring out ways to assist the greatest hitter in the game. During the biggest stretch of Ruth's dominance, he hit more home runs on the road than he did at Yankee Stadium anyway.
