well,i do have some very eclectic tastes in music ranging from power-pop to techno

(throw in some classic canadian rock from the 70s,am pop r&b,disco,funk,new wave and 80s alternative as well,some progressive and some folk)

I can't even begin to list all the bands I'm into. My roots are in the early Beatles, Elvis, Chuck Berry and Fat Domino records my parents had. I then graduated to heavier stuff like The Who, Zep, Floyd and Sabbath in High School. When I hit college I started going all over the place. Everything from Beethoven to Howlin Wolf to Dead bootlegs found its way into my collection.

I'm still always looking for new and different music. My latest craze is mashup music. Check out the Kleptones site for an example.

Are you one of those guys that likes music than no one else has heard of? I've got better music taste than most 23 year olds. Atleast I'm not into that teeny bopper crap or Linkin Park or whatever else they show on MTV.

I guess it depends on who you know. I associate with a lot of people who enjoy the music I do. In some "circles", The Flaming Lips or Guided By Voices, are the equivalent of The Who and The Beatles for what they do.

It's not that I have anything against the Stones, Zepplin, The Who, etc., (hell I'm a huge Rush fan). All those bands are classics. It's just that I can't see myself listening to the same old classic rock tunes over and over again, from now, to twenty years from now. I went through huge phases will all those bands (especially Pink Floyd), but I would go fucking nuts if I just rehashed the same shit over and over again, every day, every week, every month. Consequently, new age radio rock doesn't appeal to me (with few exceptions). It has nothing to do with being a "music snob". It has to do with how the music sounds. Maybe I don't have a fully trained ear, but I can hardly tell the difference in sound from band-to-band on major rock radio. Therefore, I don't listen to it. I choose instead to listen to independent bands, mostly, because they have the ability to stand apart from each other, to be more creative with their sound, but to still maintain their knack for catchy melodies. The music may not be considered mass marketable to 13 and 14 year old kids, but I just don't understand how that makes it automatically "suck". I buy their records online. I buy tickets to their shows. They don't play in arenas or stadiums, but that doesn't mean "nobody has heard of them". That just means people choose to pay $50 less for music they can enjoy even more than the standard stuff we all know that's already out there. And they play in venues which are designed soley for music. That's a pretty cool concept.

That's cool...I was just cracking back at you 'cause it seemed like you dissing me on my taste in my music. I picked up a lot of my musical interest from my dad. He got me into classic rock and blues and then I like a few modern groups here and there.

From what I've heard from the lesser known groups, I'm just not into it. Some of it is okay but not enough for me to buy the album. There is a certain crowd though that likes obscure stuff and basically doesn't like anything that has seen the light of day. Eventhough I'm an art student, I just haven't gotten into the indie music and movie scene.

You seem like a cool dude but I wasn't sure what you meant with the Rolling Stones crack. Frankly, I don't care what people think of my music taste nor do I care what other people like...we all like different stuff.

I found out it was on in the middle of Modest Mouse's set. Good thing, because they were awful. GBV was great though. It was as beautiful a trainwreck as I've ever seen.
