The Best Record Nobody Knows About

Post by BSmack »

I had this guy as an English professor a while back. He was definitely one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. I have a copy of his second album Lifeboats on LP, but guys who were in the know back then told me that I needed to get my hands on his first album (Red Letter Day). Sadly, there were only 500 copies of Red Letter Day pressed and they were long gone.

Which leads me to the present day and me doing a Google search on "Tom Lucas" a few months back. Lo and behold, it turns out there are a few specialty stores offering up Red Letter Day. So I figured why not? And bought the album.

Those old boys were right. Here it is. Judge for yourself.

God bless my little sister here. When in college radio, I think I used the intro to Velvet Roof for every promo.

This is actually two albums on one CD. Roll Over and Freedomburger by the New York Rock Ensemble. I have Freedomburger in my vinyl collection. This is a band that made a few LPs in the late 60s early 70s combining rock and classical sounds. Not much commercial or critical success, but they did do some great tunes. The band was fronted on vocals and keyboards by Michael Kamen, who went on to work with Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Metallica and Eric Clapton, as well as becoming one of the most sought after composer for film scores in the past 20 years. His almost 100 film credits include:

Brazil
Highlander
Baron Munchausen
Lethal Weapon 1-4
Die Hard 1- 3
License to Kill
X Men
Mr. Holland's Opus
F&L in Las Vegas
Band of Brothers
etc
etc

Kamen died in 2003.

Is this the part where Dins sings some Joe Jackson?

my dad was into the Amazing RHythym Aces. they did a respectable cover of Al Green's "Love and Happiness"---which was crazy or ballsy.

If you're into Tool, Floyd, Porcupine Tree & the like, try to find some mp3s. You won't regret it.

The KLF- "1987, What The Fuck Is Going On?"

So unknown, that it doesn't exist anymore
(except for copies of "questionable origin").
