Screwy’s Car-Free Soulmates

My wife and I tick a lot of “minority” boxes: we’re a same-sex Jewish-Palestinian couple with an ethnically ambiguous child. But you know what really makes us stand out? You know what always seems to cause people to look aghast at our lifestyle? The fact that we don’t own a car.

Now we're talking, Rootbeer! My fleet of ozone-layer depleting turds:

Mama-san's daily driver
My daily driver - yes, it's got a hemi
2-seater w/removable hard top
Beater pick up
2 V-twin motorcycles

All of the above are more than 10 years old.

Wife and I have 2 SUVs and my pickup.

Until that careless, self-absorbed bitch tried to kill me, I had my last bike for 15 years.

Not my wife I’m referring to above. The woman who totaled my bike…and nearly me.

She's right. I echo her every word.

You are truly one of the worst pieces of shit to ever post on this board. Start giving up your paycheck for reparations now and then you can shut the fuck up about your racist blasts.

One EV
One ICE SUV

Got rid of my F250 Crew Cab a few years ago because I was paying something like $900 per year to keep the registration up to date, and I was only using it three or four times a year for building and landscape supplies after my son Eagled out of the Scouts. It's cheaper to rent one from Home Depot when I need it.

The only time I drive my Prius is when I'm going surfing or leaving The City. Otherwise, I just keep it parked in the garage under my building.

Thinking of getting one of these sweet new Prius.

Just can't justify it because I don't drive that much when I'm home.

Officially the Seaters are a 9 vehicle family with two drivers.

2019 Suburban - Mr Seater San Antonio
2021 Navigator - Mrs Seater San Antonio
2009 F-150 shared use San Antonio

1998 Suburban ranch vehicle
1992 Ford Bronco ranch vehicle
1997 F-250 ranch vehicle

2009 Ford Expedition Colorado
2015 Navigator Colorado

2019 Caddy XT4 on permanent loan to the mother in law

All of these registrations total about 2/3rds of what Mikey was paying for his truck.

It was almost 20 years old by the time I got rid of it. The registration was like triple of a wussified F150 because the GVW was over 10,000 lb or something.

Age and weight are factors in registration costs? In TX it is a flat fee based upon n the county. Ours are either $48 or $52 per vehicle per year.

Vehicles with greater weights create greater wear & tear on the roads, which means such vehicles cost the state more money for the upkeep of the roads.

But don't worry. California uses the manufacturer's listed weight. They don't weigh the vehicle with the driver in it...

Just got the first renewal for my Ionic 5 EV. $418 “registration fee” and $352 “license fee.” 😳😳

No weight fee at least. They may be charging more for EVs because we don’t pay any gas tax. And they need this money to maintain the high quality service we get from the DMV.

But I also get a sticker that allows me to use the HOV lanes.

I think you left out "not for long".

I heard they are trying to eliminate that.

Mine's good for at least a couple more years. Actually, I've had it for a year and haven't yet put it on because it's pretty ugly and I don't have that much use for it. If I was commuting every day on the 5 or the 15 freeways here in San Diego, I would definitely use it. But, as it is, I rarely drive those roads during the busy(iest) hours. And if I do it's often with my wife, so we can use those lanes anyway. When I was working and driving around a lot all over SoCal I always had the sticker for my hybrid Fusion, and also a FasTrak transponder paid for by my employer.

There is a gas tax for that. Heavier vehicles use more gas per mile so they pay more in gas tax.

Registration fees don’t go towards roads, at least in TX. So care to take a run at this again.
