Weekend Roll Call 7-1-23

Post by kcdave »

In the mood for some Bocephus this morning.

Rain on the way to star the 4 day weekend here in FOC.
Minor inconvenience but a welcomed relief after 100 degree
highs the last 2 days.

Thoughts on the Smackoff if you listened, anyone?
I thought Mark in Hollywood's call was better than
Mark in Boston. BiC had another very good call as
well. Iafrate may have had his best call ever. The
contest was extremely close, and any were deserving
winners in my book.

The Supreme Court continues to make a mockery of
established law. However, I simply can't muster up any
energy to balk at the decisions passed down this week.
I just do not see any of the colossal fuckery that went
down last year.

Affirmative action? Diverse campuses looks good on paper.
But it does discriminate against many of the more deserving
(more intelligent) students. Prepare for onslaught of gooks
and dots. Have no fear for the average, rich crakah though,
money still talks and bullshit still walks. White errrrr Green
privilege is still very much alive and well. Nogs, beaners and
your typical po ass crakahs are just going to have to work that
much harder. The bigger issue with this, will be the fallout
that will likely trickle down to the business side.

Student loan forgiveness? Yeah, fuck all that. I know what
Ol' Joe was up to with this horse shit, but NO! Pay your fair
share.

Discrimination based on sexual orientation? They nailed this
one also. If a thumper chooses not to get paid to perform
services for fags based upon their bigoted beliefs that is on
them. They should not be forced to do so. End of story.
There are plenty of intelligent, open minded folk, that have
the common sense to perform a service and accept payment
in return.

Tons of grill biz on schedule this long weekend, but I do have
the inspiration to do a little grilling myself on my newest
acquisition. I am also intending (for now) to try and make
a little PET. Fingers crossed.

Happy Weekend, Y'all!

Pedodave being his usual racist self will never not be funny.

He is okay with websites that discriminate just not schools and he is so dumb he doesn’t even see his hypocrisy, just like justice beer goggles and the rest of the handmaiden tale crew. What a bunch of galoots.

Due to the policies that your buddies at the Capital enact, the life expectancy for males in LA is 6years less than in CA. Those people you chum up to and treat with respect are killing your friend (and you too btw) and yet you don’t feel the need to treat them with disgust. Nice going cuck.

We finally got some sunny weather this week and now we’re heading into a heat wave. Heated up the spa four times this week (it’s solar only) and have it heating up right now. Should be at least 90 here this afternoon. Having some friends and relatives over on Tuesday for ribs, potato salad, grilled veggies, etc. I bought a big pile of tomatoes at the farmers market to make some gazpacho using a recipe I just found. I just did a trial run and it seems really good but needs to chill for a few hours. Supposed to go really well with a shot of vodka.

I finally traded in my four year old Hyundai Kona EV this week for something a little bigger and a little faster, but still electric. Been having some fun tooling around in it this week.

I think I’m going to suggest to the Padres that they change their team name, because the current name honors a bunch of white Euros who came to the New World to exploit and almost exterminate the indigenous population. Suggested new name will be the Titans. Sunk by catastrophic implosion.

Temperatures reachimg 105 to 110 in the Bay area. 70° in San Francisco.

It's good being in The City. Best weather in the country and it's not even close. If I want the temperature to be hot. I just drive over one of the bridges for 10 or 15 minutes and it'll be in the 100's.

Enjoy your sweltering heat and humidity around the country today.

Yeah Daly City slum is usually rainy and cold. That's why it has the lowest property values.

Probably true, but still higher than anything east of the Sierra Nevada, with the probable exception of NYC.

A wet-bulb temperature over 89F (31.5C) is extremely dangerous to the human body, even if you’re sitting in the shade, not moving and drinking water. At these temperatures your body struggles to cool, because the surrounding air is so wet your sweat can't evaporate. At around 95F (35C), no amount of shade, lack of movement or hydration can save you. Your body simply can't lower its temperature. Heat stroke sets in, your organs begin to cook and death is inevitable.........

I suspect the proponents of wet-bulb theory don't condone frisbees, cookouts or suntans. Just more fear tactics from the snow-chain industry.

Uh...no, it's not a theory. It's a measurement that takes into account the thermodynamic properties of air and water vapor, temperature and humidity. It's been around for almost 100 years and was developed to be used in preventing heat related illness and injury.

But then again, I guess gravity is only a theory as well.

81 today in my home of town Palo Alto.
90 in San Jose, 54 minutes via 280.
97 in Walnut Creek, but that's over 30 minutes away.
74 in Oakland (20 minutes).
75 in Sausalito (32 minutes).
75 in Mill Valley (34 minutes).
97 in Santa Rosa, but that's over an hour away.

So yes, you are exaggerating.

71 in San Diego, BTW.

Hilarious. You'll believe anything.

Two articles are from 5 years ago and talk about south of market and a street. Yes. One street.

Too funny.

Then you get some bitter bitches who got priced out of The City and aren't even from here.

Psst... You know what was south of market when I was growing up here?

The only thing south of market was my dad's printing company and bums.

During the quake in 1906. The only thing south of market was bums and cattle.

You know what was south of market during the Gold Rush? The Bay. It's all land fill.

You know what's south of market now??? Bums and tech companies. I can't wait for the next big quake when all the ugly skyscrapers the tech companies built come crumbling down and wipe those pussies out. I will feel sorry for the bums south of market. They've always been here. Unlike the tech dweebs.

Alabama's football team has traveled farther outside of Alabama than Booger has.

Unreal.

Another fun filled day in the life of Booger...

Yep, Mikey. Third lowest rate in the country. 3200 in the entire state.

San Fran had almost 8000 in 2021. 5500 living in the streets.

You and m2 can spin it any way you want, but every news outlet, magazine, website describes Frisco as disgusting , stinking, and just plain nasty.

I’m not defending the situation in San Francisco. It’s very easy and popular to bash a place where you really don’t know what’s happening. But you maybe should be a little more realistic, and concerned, about the situation in your own backyard. Starting with reading the entire article you posted and admitting that you were pretty selective in your interpretation of what it says.

You got me there!😀

Mikey, I was just looking for numbers. I barely skimmed any of those articles.

I’ve seen two…TWO…people sleeping on the streets in downtown Montgomery in the last ten years or so. That doesn’t mean we don’t have homeless folks, but the Salvation Army and other groups seem to do a good job of giving them shelter. I worry about anyone on the streets in this brutal heat, so I carry bottled water most every day. That won’t solve homelessness, but thirst can drive a man crazy.

It’s definitely a big problem in San Francisco. I actually was born in the city but was raised about 35 miles south and left in 1973 and only go back to visit. A lot of what m2 says about it being mostly confined to certain areas and not being a new problem is largely true. People who, for whatever reasons, have nowhere else to go end up there, probably because you can live outside year round without having to worry about freezing to death or cooking in the summer heat. Back in the day they weren’t “homeless” but usually called vagrants.

A song written by Garcia and Hunter (not Biden) around 1970.

Warf Rat

Old man down
way down
down, down by the docks of the city,
Blind and dirty
asked me for a dime--
dime for a cup of coffee
I got no dime but
I got time to hear his story:
My name is August West
and I love my Pearly Baker best
more than my wine
...more than My wine
more than my maker
though he's no friend of mine

Everyone said
I'd come to no good
I knew I would
Pearly believed them

Half of my life
I spent doin' time for
some other fucker's crime
Other half found me stumbling around
drunk on burgundy wine

But I'll get back
on my feet someday
The good Lord willing
if He says I may
'cause I know the life I'm
livin's no good
I'll get a new start
live the life I should

I'll get up and fly away
I'll get up and
fly away...
...fly away

Pearly's been true
true to me, true to my dying day he said
I said to him:
I'm sure she's been
I said to him:
I'm sure she's been true to you

I got up and wandered
Wandered downtown
nowhere to go
just to hang around
I got a girl
named Bonny Lee
I know that girl's been true to me
I know she's been
I'm sure she's been
true to me

I know the song.

I can understand homeless people gravitating toward SF. As you said, good weather and a beautiful area. I’ve got nothing against the place. I just enjoy fucking with m2. It’s a damn shame parts of the city have become so nasty.

The best defense of Alabama is that isn’t got nothing. Only a few parts are nice geographically, weather sucks, huge bugs, no real beach, meh agricultural land and yet they do ok (or like just below ok or however you want to say it). SF has everything and yet some places suck due to greed in parts of the city and addiction and despair in others.

It's sad, really. I grew up in the center of what's now called Silicon Valley, but left years before it became Silicon Valley. It was a great place to grow up, but a whole lot different back then. We had apricot and almond orchards withing walking distance of our house. Incredible music scene. A lot of people I grew up with who stayed around made a whole lot of money in the tech boom and, sometimes in the past, I've had some thoughts that I'd be better off if I had stayed around. But I wouldn't want to live there now. A lot of the problems in San Francisco and the entire area are due to the tech boom and bust cycle, with so much money coming in and creating huge income inequality. Also, with the pandemic a lot of the folks who were working downtown are now living in Nevada City or Grass Valley and telecommuting, leaving empty buildings, retail and service providers going bust, and a reduced tax base. Things will work out at some point, they always do. But in the meantime I've got my own slice paradise here in LoCal and have no plans to leave.

Still a great place to visit, though I haven't been up there since before the pandemic. My 50th HS reunion is in September. We plan to spend a week in Palo Alto and San Francisco, so we will see.

Mothers attacked by baseball-bat wielding children as San Francisco crime wave intensifies

Baseball bat-wielding gangs of children are mugging mothers and nannies on the school run in the latest crime wave to hit San Francisco.

Last week Noe Valley, also known as “stroller valley” because of the growing population of young families, endured 11 phone robberies that are believed to have been carried out by the same gang who are targeting women picking up children from school.

One woman was reportedly hit with a baseball bat, while another was punched in the face, before the offender ran to a getaway car and drove off.

The California city has slumped in recent years from one of the most desirable places to live to one crippled by opioid usage, a disproportionate rate of homelessness and rising crime.

Wow. Exaggerate much? I’m not trying to minimize the situation but if you actually read the article it sounds like a couple of teenagers (didn’t we once call them juvenile delinquents?) driving around in a car assaulting some young mothers and stealing their iPhone 14’s (prolly targeting the Pro Max). Not ideal but it doesn’t exactly equate to “baseball bat wielding gangs of children.” Leave it to the Brits (the Telegraph?) to practice a little creative embellishment. Sounds almost Dickensian. They’re probably working for some guy named Fagin, who can’t seem to make ends meet since Becker, his partner in crime, died. :meds:

Am I getting things mixed up here?

And Noe Valley isn’t the area where the streets are full of used needles and addicts sleeping on the street. At last count (from some locals) there are approximately two homeless in the neighborhood.
