What are the longterm effects of this?

Part of it is a decimation of a number of industries. Another is the ability of the population as a whole to fend off future illness.

We have already seen a big rise in things like peanut allergies which could be the result of a young population that never played in the dirt with neighborhood kids like we old timers did.
