god

Post by Roach » Fri Jun 19, 2020 8:39 pm

Is there one?
Is it a her?
Are we too small to even have a conception?
Where do secular folks get morality?
Does "god" even have anything to do with morality?
Who thinks god talks to them?

Some speculate we are living in some sort of virtual reality existence. Think Kafka ? I'm happy with most of it so far, and at age 81 I realize I'm a short-timer. God is the SYSOP.
Goodness is the Golden Rule. Atheists can believe in that, I hope.

I apologize to you for the toxicity, 88. A line was crossed yesterday. And other days.

If it's just CdS, then I won't worry about it. I thought you were gone-gone. Have a great weekend, 88. Thank you for the board.

I believe death is proof that you are not living in a dream world/VR experience. Especially when it happens to those closest to you. Death is entropy reminding us that all must be annihilated.

What happens after death is at best a fairy tale told to calm the living.

Yeah.

Why is there anything to annihilate in the first place, though?

88.
I usually agree with you 100%.
But here, you fall prey to the usual "if GOD is so good then why does he allow such evil and misery?"
ie....cancer, Hitler, Mao, Epstein, Comanche tribe, covid 19, all sorts of unspeakable heinous crimes against humanity etc...

That's a real childish way of looking at things 88.

First, if this life was all rosey and pure perfection with no suffering hate, disease or death, that'd be called, "heaven on earth". We'd all be a bunch of "Tom Brady's" for christ's sakes.

When you're a child , and things don't go your way, you throw a temper tantrum. As an adult, you realize that life is filled with a lot of sorrow and suffering.
Hopefully we gain the wisdom with each passing year to enjoy the joy of being alive.
Understanding that there's indeed suffering and misery, but that makes one appreciate the true wonders and joys of life all the more.

Once you come to the realization of the brevity of life, as I have, you cherish each moment, each glorious sunrise, as you breathe in the fresh morning air, smell the fresh ground coffee, that first glorious sip....smoked salmon, creamed cheese and capers...
Poached eggs....the little joys of being out on a calm lake at dawn, line in the water,

Reminds me of the scene from "Godfather", Fredo out on the boat, calm lake, next moment he's dead.

Man's inhumanity to man will indeed continue.
The divine creator gives each of us a choice, "free will" to do good or evil.
Otherwise we'd just be robots pre-programmed.
Who wants that kind of life, other than a mentally disturbed leftist control freak?

Softball understands what I'm saying. He gets it.

We've all encountered those with horrible circumstances in this life. From the starving child, to the wheelchair bound co-worker, to a friend or relative with stage 4 cancer, etc....that actually have joy and happiness. And then we've seen wealthy housewives with plastic surgery, filled with misery and hate as their husbands are screwing some college slut.

Point being is that we can choose to be happy and enjoy being alive, regardless of our circumstances. Or we can wallow in our own misery and curse God or mankind.

Your choice.

EAP bless your pea-pickin' heart but your reply is a bit myopic.

88 asks Jesus H Christ (Fuckin' Noob) if there is god, why are somethings so fucked up?

You say that outlook is childish, and then describe how you have learned to accept the bad. But nowhere address why a god would create this hot mess. Some metaphors of existence say it is a test for us to advance, is this what you mean by free will? Others use it to keep the masses down and control the women. You have found a christian metaphor that seems to suit many.

Now this is The gem of the post . . .

Ok.
Addressing 88's question of how God would allow such a mess.

Maybe I was too vague.

The part where I mentioned God could've just created robots programmed for only good.

Biological bodies free from diseases like cancer, etc.....

But that's NOT the reality.

How do you blame God for man's inhumanity to man?
If we have free will, then we only have ourselves to blame for the wicked criminal acts we commit.

Isn't that "childlike" to blame others for our own actions?
Or throw a temper tantrum when things don't go your way?

God isn't creating this "hot mess", any more than than Hitler or Mao's parents created their reign of terror on humanity.

Think about that.

Your parents create you, then send you out to be fruitful and multiply.
If you go on to become a charlie manson, Stalin or a Comanche killer, do we question your parents who created you? Do we curse them? Hold them responsible? Of course not.
Same with the divine creator who created everything.
We can either love one another, or blow it all up.
But stop blaming God for christ's sakes! No pun intended.

I didn't claim god made this mess, or claim to know if there is a god, whatever that even fucking means.

Some giant force is behind all we know and see, and our "known" universe might be an atom of fart gas, a brain cell, or a single drop of rain in another dimension of time/space.

Our free will is akin to Darwinism. Our planet develops and humans come along and maybe we kill ourselves or maybe prosper. Perhaps the dinosaurs win, or the covid virus or we all die and maybe another type of amoeba starts it over again. But even our form of life must be trivial in the grand scheme, how narcissistic of us to assume our form of being is The form.

Pretty hard to make sense of it all, so we adopt metaphoric stories to help our brains map it out. Christianity, voodoo, hindu, scientist, etc...

Your view is from the microcosm, the nano-sized part of space and time we claim as our existence. Perhaps that is the best way, as the larger picture is incomprehensible.

I'm a secular moral agnostic these days. There is something Way bigger than I can know that brings us our current sense of reality, but behaving in a moral fashion helps us all be happier, so we don't need a god and a book to tell us that.

Darwin on a galactic scale. Regards and have a nice day.

Well said and we agree.

But now . . . Is morality given from a higher source, or is it just good survival-of-the-fittest practice, and we've adopted it to stay alive. Assuming we live in a social society. And, just what is left, after the physical body decays? Besides star dust.

I wish I knew what all this shit really means.

Wow.
You ask the deepest questions of all time.
Since we are biological beings, just like the lions tigers 🐅 and 🐻 bears, it is indeed survival of the fittest.

Mankind gets morality from a higher power.
Think very deeply about this.

The founders knew this.

All of mankind is deeply flawed.
That is why the founders, who were deeply flawed themselves, proclaimed that we have inalienable rights.

Those are rights given to us by a "higher power"
And therefore, CANNOT be taken away. CANNOT be violated by government, under ANY circumstances.

You've probably known about this since elementary school.
BUT have you really KNOWN it?
Is it ingrained in your heart ❤ mind and your testicular fortitude?

I know for a fact that 88, the BIG PICKLE, smack, myself and several others on this board, KNOW these truths deeep down.

ALL human beings are flawed beings, including the founders.

However, that being said?

They left us a road map for all times. It CANNOT be fucked with by left wing government control socialists, who don't understand the very nature of mankind

As it turns out, if we hold these principles of liberty as sacrosanct, we will be the only real hope left to save mankind from complete and utter destruction.

No other country has these truths that we hold self evident.
All other countries are government control. Any rights they may or may not have, come to them from man. Their own government decides for them.

All morality comes from above.
Since we've established that man is a deeply flawed biological being, why the fuck would anyone of sound mind, look to man and government for their rights?

The concept of "inalienable" rights, can only exist in a universe designed and created by a higher power, a higher form of intelligence.

You don't need a religion to understand this. Just an intellectual curiosity.

Any left wing low IQ weak minded sheep 🐑 who tells you otherwise, is just parroting leftist propaganda.

Remember when "New Age" was popular? L Ron Hubbard?
For a while, powerful types like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, etc....were "New Age" guys.
Their philosophy mirrors "The Force" from Lucas's "star wars" movies.
The entire universe is a holistic form of divinity that includes us human beings.
The PROBLEM with that entire bullshit philosophy, goes directly back to my point that mankind, is very very flawed.
And, left to our own devices, human nature will kick in, and we will conquer and destroy one another.
That is why I've always maintained that there is indeed a higher source, a light years greater intelligence, a creator, that is the source for our existence, our rights, and yes,
Our morality.

Wanna know who has a pretty good take on the g0d question?

Jordan Peterson.

When asked, his answer is I live my life as if he does.

I take that as his way of saying of course he doesn’t exist, but the idea of God, the philosophy behind Christianity is actually a pretty fukkking clever one and we ignore it at our peril.

What it comes down to Is man, thanks to many years of evolution is a self centered POS.

He has to be. Nice guys finish dead fukking last in the evolution game.

Religion recognizes this universal truth and sets in place quidlines to try to take the edge of his assholishness.

Communists, or at least their willing dupes believe that if we all just work together, we’ll all get along swell in a socialist paradise.

It completely ignores the inevitability of assholes gaining the reigns of power.

And this always happens because nice guys kinda suck at holding onto the reigns.

Back to the deep religious stuff....

Is waking your spouse with a little anal a sin?

Is the level of sinfulness attenuated if you use lube?

How about if you buy her something nice the next day?

My guess is his mention Galt was in referece to Ayn Rand who said we are obligated to take care of ourselves and people who go around telling others that they need to take care of others are busy body douches.

smackaholic you are truly the Sage of t1b. Concise and spot on. Your post starting with Jordan Petersen is gold.

And the John Galt thing, I have to tell myself it's ok to be selfish as that is a virtue. Within rand's meaning of it.

Not sure how that fits into anal sex, but most males just want to stick it anywhere so if the heater's back door is open for business, then I suppoise it's ok to rage on . . . But I'll pass and not for religious reasons.

Thank you Roach.

The anal thing was a continuation of tune town discussions from a few weeks ago between Smackie, 88, Dins and myself.

It was fun and more than a little depraved. You shoulda been there.

You ever gonna get your ass into tunetown? You really should. Never know what sort of enlightening discussion might take place.

God created us, and we are all his slaves, like angels and demons. He looks at us and sees all our actions, our words and thoughts. This gives us trials, knowing in advance how we will deal with them or not. A person must have two things: faith in God and the coming of the day when he will judge us by our actions and thoughts. I don't want to argue about this. This is religion. When it comes to death, I like Twain's saying, "I'm not afraid of death." I was dead for billions and billions of years before I was born and did not experience the slightest inconvenience from it. Regards, newbie.

I just realized that in a forum which is named after a Rush lyric, multiple uses of the term "free will" without the obligatory video is just wrong.
