Jeff Bagwell

Post by Go Coogs' »

Didn't get in today because of the era he played in. Everyone can speculate whether he juiced or not, but the bottom line is he never was linked to any lists or personal trainers dishing the shit out. Word is he was taking andro at the time and it wasn't an illegal substance during his time on the field. Unfortunately, more than 59% of the writers out there think he was dirty like all the others.

Sucks to be Bagwell who is the best statistical first baseman post World War II. He is in a very select group of consistent hitters in all of baseball. I'm talking about 30 homeruns, 100 runs, 100 rbi, 100 walks w/ a OBP of .400 for six straight seasons. Guys with the name Gehrig, Ruth, Foxx, and Pujols can only share that same honor. He got the shaft.

Why bother speculating? He's fucking guilty as sin, along with Biggs, on certainly one of the more juiced teams in the game.

but the bottom line is he never was linked to any lists or personal trainers dishing the shit out.
And he should get in on the first ballot in the Discreet Hall Of Fame.

Extra props for the timing of his exit.

Big Mac just shit himself laughing.

Unfortunately, more than 59% of the writers out there think he was dirty like all the others.
40% of the writers are idiots.

Subjective. One could argue that Giambi and Helton (seeing a pattern here?) were better.

Guys with the name Gehrig, Ruth, Foxx, and Pujols can only share that same honor.

Gehrig, Ruth, and Foxx weren't juicing.

Although how the fuck could anyone vote for Bret Buffoon?

Of all the juicers, he was the most juiced up motherfucker there was, ever.

Give me tangible evidence.

Bags is the first speculative case to come up for HoF membership. He's the guy that didn't make a list, but has fell 'victim' to the juiced era. If you're a writer and take this approach over the next few years as a skeptic, how would you feel if you're wrong about a couple of guys who has the credentials and kept their nose clean?

What if they're wrong about Bags?

Let's go with the ridiculous hypothetical.

Think Bags the Puritan never saw a needle come out of a locker?

So, he screamed from the mountaintops, like Frank Thomas, right?

If a guy is competing with the juicers without juicing, he said nothing about it... why?

Oh, and there's the deal where he sought out a personal trainer who's been busted for dealing roids... there is that.

You ever heard of the "code"? Jose Canseco didn't adhere to it, but almost everyone else did during the era. Not because they were all doing it, but maybe because it was clubhouse taboo to snitch or cry foul when players started getting caught.

Like you said, this is ALL hypothetical scenarios because there is nothing tangible on Bags as of right now. Maybe the writers are trying to right a wrong because baseball wouldn't address the issue for the longest time. But if they're wrong about a guy based on speculation and keep him out of the HoF, then they all need to be taken out to pasture and shot in the head.

No comment on Bags seeking out the Texas equivalent of BALCO?

Still no definitive word on Bagwell's link to PEDs.

Now that Biggio is in, Bags belongs. He 37th all-time in positional WAR and only Albert Pujols is the only one who's played fewer seasons that is ranked above him. Bagwell accomplished his feats in 15 seasons of play which makes his resume all the more remarkable. Not only that, but his last two seasons he played with horrible arthritis in his throwing shoulder.

In the strike shortened season he was on pace for one of the best single-season batting performances ever recorded.

110 Games Played
.368
39 HRs
116 RBI

162 Games (Projection)
.368
57 HRs
171 RBI

He is 6th all-time in WAR at 1st base and dude stole 200 bases. I'm sorry, but he needs to get in. Next year is his best chance.

We can argue weather the users of the steroid era deserve inclusion till the cows that shared growth hormones with Barry Bonds come home. But that is still the real issue, because only the most dillusional Astro homer would argue Baggs level of "clean".
