most telling stat of Oklahoma-Tech

Post by King Crimson »

at 9 pm MST....the telecast had been on for 3 hours...there where 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. the 3rd quarter.

i was literally "happy" when the clock was running at the end of plays (which wasn't often). fuck Tech, fuck Kliff, fuck Mike Stoops, fuck that 70's turf.....terrible football.

honestly, i enjoyed OU-Houston more than that.

great game by Mahomes though. kid made some crazy plays.

TD
[commercial break]
PAT
[commercial break]
Kickoff/return/touchback
[commercial break]
1st and 10

not a lot of flow to the game.

i thought we'd reached the nadir of all that a decade ago in the Big XII with Leach, Pinkel, clock stopping every play...etc...those 4 hour games. but Kingsbury is a throwback. i think Tech ran the ball twice in a row once in the game. on 3rd and 1 they didn't get it and went for it...made it. so, even that was "situational".

like you say...lot of reviews and penalties....ugly game to watch. seriously, it was hard to care....for all the scoring, there was very little drama since neither D had any resistance. like watching porn for an hour after you've "finished"....or Shaq dunk two-handed, uncontested in his driveway for an afternoon.

I fell asleep 1/3 of the way into the fourth quarter. Had been up since 3 am due to work and other things kept coming after that, not least of which a toddler. Couldn't make it to the end. I recorded it. Woke up and finished the game as I scribbled notes for work ineffectively.

There was some sooner from Florida who warned OU would live to regret forcing Venables out, what an idiot that guy was...

in the end times of my sooner message board career.....i defended Brent a lot. i like the guy. he lived around the corner from my dad in Norman....seemed like a good guy.

but Brent was amazingly predictable on 3rd and more than 5. he was going to send people.....i think that's cool....make the other guys beat you.....but after seasons of it and game tape.....everyone figures it out. i think there was good reason at the end to let Brent take a fall for the inherent flaws in the Bob Stoops D. bad on 3rd and long, deep ball post safety out of position......that's for real the last 15 years. Sooners have been good, played for the NC 4 times under Stoops, won every BCS bowl game......can't ask for much more than that. really. great record against top 10 teams. that's Oklahoma football.

but, the Oklahoma defense won RG III the Heisman....because they can't make a play.

and that hasn't changed much with Mikey. last year they were pretty good....but you "encourage" Brent Venables who has been with you since day 1 and at KSU with Darth Snyder.....so you can re-hire your brother who just happened to get fired as a HC....felt a little creepy.

i am respect manifold basically of everything Bob Stoops has done for OU football....but i'm not sure about that.

If that game was on CBS Sports Network, then they may still be playing right now.

re up:

i don't get the national love/mel kiper piece/all over hooray for the 2016 OU-Tech game. it was horrible to watch. ESPN had the better headline earlier in the week when they billed it as "when they broke college football".

mahomes was great; mayfield made a lot of plays like he did. that is my memory.

defense was terrible. terrible.

it wasn't a classic, it was horrible. if it had gone to OT i would have gone to bed. seriously. 4 1/2 hours. i couldn't take another minute.

lucky the nation was watching Bama-LSU on Saturday night because the 2018 OU-Tech game was pretty fucking ugly too minus the two NFL QB's.

MIchigan and ND did a lot more for the playoff than OU, any one paying attention.....that's for sure.
