Louis Van Gaal

Living in The Netherlands has given me in-depth access to European and UK soccer.

The Netherlands has made the World Cup Round of 16 when no one thought they had a chance.

Manchester United, the NY Yankees of soccer, has hired Van Gaal to restore them to glory. I think he's currently the best soccer coach in the world.

No specific article, just discussion with the locals.

They're not big on past performance over there, especially with an aging roster.

The locals must be out of their minds. Seriously, the Dutch couldn't be one of the top 16? Tough crowd.

To clarify: no chance of winning the Cup.

The point is Van Gaal is getting it done with a weak team.

...and Schlomey, I don't want to hear jack SHIT about Canada anymore. :meds:

I didn't respond here when Van Gaal got sacked last season.

They should have stayed with him his third year, and Manchester's record so far this season shows it.

Who is your local Dutch club? Have you been watching Champions League? I adopted CSKA Moscow so I've been learning about the wonderful world of European club football.

I forgot we have an association football forum. I'll have to put together a few takes.

One of the funny things I've noticed about Euro football compared to US sprots is how fast they go through coaches. In the Russian Premier League the coaches might not even last two years. The manager of the Russian national team, who also manages CSKA, immediately quit as Russian manager after their disastrous performance at Euro 2016. I bet a lot of us would like our crappy managers to do that stateside.

Watch for Leicester City/Copenhagen, 2nd leg Champions League. Leicester fans thought they were the best away crowd at King Power ever, sounded like a proper event!

Leicester City Football Club has sacked manager Claudio Ranieri less than nine months after winning the Premier League title.
