Now taking applications ...

Post by RadioFan »

For a couple of World Cup forum moderators.

Not that it isn't the biggest stage of sport or anything.

Here's the deal ...

Forum opens: May 15

Forum closes: When folks stop posting, and/or based on how the U.S. does ... no later than July 15 (Hey, the final is July 9).

Here's a little recap for the tards:

The tournament is once every four (4) years, and lasts a month. This year, it's June 9-July 9.

National teams, including us, as in the U.S., play each other, in global groups, in qualifying stages. The qualifying for this tournament, takes two (2) YEARS, just to get there, in two (2) rounds of qualification. Given that there are roughly 117 nations in the world who want to win the World Cup, and that there are 32 that are invited to the tourney ... well, there you go.

On paper, we have absolutely no chance of making it beyond the first round -- and even if we make it that far, the way things stack up, we'll likely have to play Brazil, as we did in '94, in the second freaking round. Unless of course, we win all our games in the first round.

All that being said, sign up if you want IN.

Fester and Smackaholic, since they're exempt, only need to watch the Dutch in action, and not watch Italy.

The goddamn Italians are NOT exempt, as we play them in the first round.

Defensive-minded bullshit posers, the Italians are, in this sport.

They'd just assume win 1-0, on a counter-attack, and call it a "GREAT" victory. Assholes.

Anybody else who wants Landon Donovan, Demarcus Beasley, et al, to carve up some foreign freaks, or defend us via Kasey Keller or Tim Howard ... make your case.

I've got one taker ... how about a second?

Most of those in here hate soccer because of a lack of SCORING.

Italy PRIDES their bastard selves on this, along with defense.

We play Italy in the second game of the first round.

Tards: We play three games in the first round, against everybody else in our group.

You get three (3) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and zero (0) points for a loss. The top two teams in each group move on, to the "knockout stage," i.e ... single-game elimination, which is when the tournament really gets good.

Us playing Italy ... will be sort of like being in a 3-game series in the MLB, with us likely down a game. Win 2 out of three and you get to move on ...

i have $50 on Holland and Czech to win it all. After Pacific blew that first round game, i said,"fuck it, why not piss away more money, and have something riding on the WC".

czech have an outside shot.

holland should aleast make semis, but they have many heartless pricks on the team, and some extremely shitty coaching.

The FIFA rankings are a farce. No way the US is #4 in the world. I refuse to believe it.

Better hope it doesn't come down to a shootout. that's when they always choke.

Anybody but Fester and it ain't even worth havin'...

In fact, Sky Sports Europe (or whatever the big network is over yonder) ought to hire Fester right this fucking minute to do ALL their World Cup color commentary.

some of the most entertaining games aren't the ones with the normal English commentators... Fox Soccer Channel does an EPL game every week featuring a fan from each side in the booth... you can barely understand a word, and they don't even talk about the match. just talk shit about each others team. good times

If Fester makes a case for locking any and all "Italy is great!" or any other team that "wins" by not scoring threads, he'll be a front-runner.

He's gotta want it though.

Fight for it, Fester, fight for it.

They didn't in the quarters of Euro 2004. Of course, they were in a shootout with Sweden -- not Italy (semis of Euro 2000) or Brazil (semis in France '98 ). :meds:

Btw, I haven't even gotten into how much damn PKs fucking SUCK -- way more than a Sissyroo or jtr post in here -- in the later rounds of the tournament. A rant to come on this topic for sure, at some point. Aside from the lack of scoring, worst thing about the game regarding major international tourneys. Not sure how Euro feels about it, but imo, they should keep playing in OT sudden death, until there's only like 5 guys left on each team, if that's what it takes. FUCK PKs

hey Nish... how much are they killing SGE for his inclusion of Walcott but not Darren Bent?

Exactly.

In fact, anybody who disagrees with those two being the World Cup Tourney Commentators (who cares about their possible mod duties) simply doesn't know what this board is (or ought to be) all about.

It's a dog's arse of a squad. Too many midfielders and still no Shaun Wright-Phillips - but then again, that's what happens when you take the Chelsea shilling and sit on a bench all season.

Owen and Rooney had better get fit or we're fucked. Crouch was awful today, in the best FA Cup final I've ever seen in my lifetime.

looks like my red devils may have quite the new look next year... new rumor is a swap with lyon... Diarra for RvN. definitely hate to see him go though. hopefully Rossi grows up fast, Saha continues his ways, and Alan Smith ends up healthy by September...

I read where Rooney may not be named to the national squad, and even if he is, he may not be available until the 2nd round.

What's Owen's problem?

Btw, it looks as if the consensus here is that it'll be Nish and Fester moderating our soon-to-be WC forum.

Owen's been suffering leg-knack all season, ever since he came back from Madrid, and then he went and broke his foot. If the worst comes to the worst, our front line will be someone who has never played in the Premiership, and a giraffe.

And when I'm World Cup Mod, all anti-Sahkurr posts not as innovative as Festers will be tampered with.

my favorite line was that someone blamed the Nike boots for Rooney's injury, and then went on to mention the injuries of Neville, Beckham, and Owen... except none of them actually wear Nike besides Rooney....

I think it's more to do with Rooney charging round like the world's biggest five year-old, myself. But them boots get flimsier and flimsier.

And I'm not fond of Nike at all, but thair range of shirts for the World cup absolutely piss on the Adidas ones.

When i played in college, i actually used the Nike Vapors for my final two seasons... they fit my foot great, but didn't offer much protection from the feet of others, especially since i was a forward. Now i've switched to heavier boots, since i don't need the speed nearly as much in the amateur league i play in, but also because they tend to be a bit more reckless compared to the guys i played against in college.

I only owned one pair of boots in my life - adidas Athletico. But I have a pair of adidas Gerd Mullers, which are basically his boots with the studs taken off.

I have mates who play pub football who would not even look at any boot as lightweight as the current ones adidas and Nike are coming out with, as they'd get stomped out the minute they walked on the pitch.

Are you kidding?

Nike did a pretty bang-up job on Holland's duds. Jesus F. Christ, I'm surprised they don't have a swoosh under that "logo" of a crest. Absolutely Horrid, especially for the "home" jerseys:

Image

The away jerseys are better, but they still have that damn patch where the crest should be.

Hell, even if the Netherlands does manage to pull it off this time, they'll be known as the championship team with the "patch" uniforms. Are you fucking kidding me? Of course, it will be a complete triumph for the Nike/Nicorette merger, when everyone wasn't looking.

Patches are old school, and considered OK footballwise. And have you notice that the USA shirt is a copy of the Allies in Escape To Victory?

adidas have just designed one shirt and changed the colours, which is shameful.

the us national jersey design is inspired by the jersey of the 1950 World Cup tournament where the U.S. defeated England...

Nish, maybe you can elaborate more, but i'm pretty sure that the England kits are not just designed by Umbro, but the FA has a definite say in what they look like. I seem to recall Beckham playing a part in the design of the kit and the warm-ups, since he is captain....

i just typed what i saw on a press release... but now that i reread it, i do see that it was "inspired by" the 1950 kit...

oh well, i have the last two... so i don't think i need a new one. will need a new United shirt though, since i have the last 3 sponsors. any leak on who will be replacing Vodafone yet?
