I actually had a car up until around Christmas. Just too much of a pain in the ass to park and maintain in the city. So I drove it down to South Carolina and let a buddy take it. Would be nice if I still had it, given the current predicament, but probably wouldn’t be that much different of having to donate a few limbs to parking garages and the ticket signers.

99% of the time it's a waste of money to have a car in cities like NYC and the District. But in the 0.01% of the time when you really could use one, it's priceless. It's the only way to panic buy.

I did the math for if I had decided to have a car here, I'd have spent $50,000 on having that piece of shit around. Hopefully I don't go bust fighting Covid 19 but that's $50k I'd rather have in my pocket than the moneypit of unnecessary car ownership.

So both of the people I know who had it say it is much less severe than the flu. Just two more data points.

Yes on ‘external’ grocery shopping and delivery services. Some local groceries themselves have their own delivery people as well. Also services like Fresh Direct, Freshly and Amazon Fresh have their own fresh warehouses, fresh trucks and not-so-fresh produce.

But all of these options are dwindling right now. No available delivery times except at midnight and even then slim pickens. I’m usually a big fan of Costco but no fucking way will I go there. Three hour wait, most of the shelves are probably picked through and need an uber to bring the shit home. Might as well hang out in a hospital lobby and lick the floor for an afternoon.

If I test positive then I will go back to flying after this 14 day quarantine. Asia and the S Pacific Islands are coming back online. Casinos in Macau and the Philippines are begging for clients and are willing to fly them in. If I don’t test positive then I don’t go back to work, but I also don’t have to do the strict quarantine thing either.

So, I should know in the next 5-7 days if my work vacation is over.
