Van posted a vid of running descrition of the TT course by Guy awhile back. Heavy Brit accent+squirrely+amped up on adrenaline does not result in cognitive banter. Amusing still, but amusing in the way of a rare and oddly chirpping bird.


BTW..I set the DVR to record the entire series on direct tv. I hope it's not the same program aired over and over, but daily live updates.

How much pre-running to the competitors get in before the race?

You have to be born without any notion of self preservation to do what those fukkers do. Any semi-sane fukker could run that course for the rest of their days and never approach what they do.

I rode to Birmingham last week. Mostly back roads which I enjoy far more than main highways and/or interstates. Briefly got on the interstate and was doing 85 and 90 to stay with the pack. On the big slab, that's no big deal, but doing 90 on country roads doesn't appeal to me any more. I have to admit that my reflexes have eroded. I easily see that I don't react as quickly as I used to. Throwing 700 pounds of metal around at high speeds just ain't as much fun as it used to be, so I don't push it like I used to.

I'm the same way...I'd much rather be on a two-lane country road than the huge slab of concrete with cages on both sides of you. And when I'm out in the country it's all about enjoying the scenery, not pushing an envelope (not to mention trying to push an envelope on a 900 lb bike ain't all that easy...nor good for the floorboards ).

Van, if you're reading this, I know you're right about changing my seating position via another bike helping my back, but for now I'm doing better on my VTX. That guy who redid my seat did an excellent job. It's softer where it needed to be he bolstered the back to where it provides some support for my lower back. When I throw the rear seat, rack, and bags on soon to head to Tampa, I think I'll be okay.

I still say you should look into a Mustang seat w/ a backrest. Makes long cruises so much more enjoyable!

That Dennis Kirk seat is a lot cheaper than what I paid for mine (although I'm not sure if the model of scoot it goes on makes a price difference)!

I doubt there's a whole lot. And even with some pre-race studying, drivers still make embarrassing mistakes. Case in point, I saw on last nights coverage that Cam Donald took a side street off the course. He probably lost close to a minute to get back.

Still....Better one of those little mistakes than the killer last one.

Nope. Max payload on a 130 is 42,000 lbs.

That trio needs to go to a C-17 and even then, they couldn't carry more than a few tons or enough to feed them for a day or two. So, for all intensive purposes, the only thing in the chairforce inventory that would suit them is the C-5.

Negative, on any military planes. They keep those pretty close to the vest. Not sure how one would get time without signing up.

Back in the day we had a poster named Gucci that flew the gunship version of the C-130. Have seen him around in 5 years or more.

I'm thinking they may have to go to the Antonov An-225 Mriya. And even it would struggle to get airborne.

They could just feed 'spray a few barrells of chilli, strap him into the back and drop the loading ramp. Kind of a ghetto JATO system. He'd have that badboy to cruising altitude in no time.

The most sketch part about that race is that even at those speeds, a lap is still about 17-18 minutes long. How do those guys remember a lap that long and at what speeds to take the turns and straights at? Its just pin it, hope and hold on

The worst feeling I've ever had (other than seeing the Indians blow that WS to the Marlins in game 7) is to be hauling ass on the bike, top a hill on a road you don't know well, and find that the road curves away at a bend that you can't possible handle at the speed you're traveling. This has happened to me way too many times.

Obviously I am an amazingly talented rider because I am typing this.

Or there's a lot of doctors out there who can nearly raise the dead.

I went there, about a dozen or so years ago. What I can remember;

1. Sitting on said stone wall with a pint while said bikes were bombing past a couple of feet from you

2. Being on the track, in a car, on Mad Sunday (the day that the track is open to anyone, with no speed limit), hearing a motorbike miles off into the distance, knowing that in ten seconds time they'd be tearing past you, hopefully still in control of their bikes.

3. Seeing the corner pillar of the tunnel that you're supposed to clip with your helmet as you turn into it (which is where a lot of the fatalities have taken place)

4. Walking up the main road, seeing an endless line of Ducatis lined up against the pavement as far as the eye can see, shitting myself that I'd stumble into one and topple the whole lot over.

5. Seeing enough Germans in leathers and poodle-cuts to last me 40,000 lifetimes

6. Reading the local paper on the ferry over from Liverpool, noticing that it was plastered with drug bust stories where the police dogs would find a lump of hash buried under someone's tent - in a glass jar - and people being jailed for a month, and then getting so paranoid at the sight of drug dogs in the lobby that my own bag went past me six times before I recognised it.

I have no interest in motorbikes whatsoever, but fuck me, what an event. It's like the world's biggest biker gang take over Noddy's town for a week and they're welcomed with open arms. If you're into motorbikes, you need to go.
