Fine example of the insect order Homoptera Sam. I remember as a kid in CNY hearing those guys making their humming sounds in the summertime.

Amazing how science changes its mind, especially when it comes to taxonomy. Those guys were order Homoptera when I studied entomology at the University of Maine circa 1961.
Maybe someday they'll decide we are not Homo sapiens.
You have Traffic "You Can All Join In" for tonight. Sounds like Traffic does the Grateful Dead. See you.

I have a couple live Traffic tunes in the queue, but I'll have to track that one down. I'll try to have it by showtime.

They didn't make those sounds by themselves, you know.

"They didn't make those sounds by themselves, you know."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicada

Au contraire---check out Cicada Song. Now you'll know that the sound they produce differs from the stridulation of say crickets.
The entomology lesson is free.
