vegetable gardens

Post by ElTaco »

Ok so this isn't exactly cooking/drinking topic directly but I am wondering how many of you might grow your own vegetables/herbs for cooking at home? More specifically, wondering if anyone here has done any hydroponics / aquaponics / airoponics? In other words, growing vegetables/herbs in something other then dirt.

Tomatoes and herbs here, El. Looking to add another 8x10 box for beans and okra next spring.

Tried hydroponic herbs a coupla-three years ago, but one batch of pesto wiped out the basil and it just wasn't worth the hassle. And on that note...

The local newspaper published a series of articles on how the DEA and local joint drug task forces bird-dog customers that shop retail hydroponic stores - even follow them home and sort through their trash. One couple had their door kicked in only to be busted for trafficking... tomatoes. Turns out those poor folks use loose leaf to brew their tea, which in their garbage apparently resembled another leafy substance. Guess the point is, you might want to take another look over your shoulder before investing in grow-lights.
