Fuck. You people are disgustingly spam.
I've lost more weight than all of you weigh collectively.
Seriously...how's it goin'?
I'm down from 240 to 214 since last year and still dropping.
When the doc told me I was "pre-diabetic" I pretty much cut about 80% of the carbs from my diet. Beer is out for the most part. White rice is out. Pizza, bagels, bread...pretty much anything made from wheat flour... are out except for an occasional special event. A whole lot of exercise doesn't hurt either. All the numbers are now in the low to normal range.
I peaked out about 330 about 5-6 years ago. I just started eating "smarter". I had a flare-up of eating like total shit about a year and a half ago and started losing some weight due to high blood sugar kicking my ass. That's not a good way to lose weight.
SO - I try to hold my carbs down to about 100-120 grams a day, but more importantly - I eat every 4 hours, and I mean I STICK to it, too. Only problem with that, is that a lot of times at around 3 1/2-4 hours, I start "falling out a little bit", so eating something is absolutely mandatory. Another sort of shitty problem I have with that, is the fact that I rarely can sleep more than about 5 hours at a time without waking up starved and ready to eat. 7 hours of sleep in one night is a REAL good night of sleep for me now - which kind of sucks. Then again - older folks don't tend to sleep as much, so I guess there's that.
It's somewhat like the Atkins Diet (I suppose), but you still need SOME carbs to get you going, though. I don't eat white bread or wheat bread. Wheat is even worse for you than white bread nowadays, as it's all genetically enhanced shit. Obviously, I don't eat anything with sugar in it. Every now and then I will cheat (maybe 1 or 2 times a month) and have just a tiny bit of desert - but this is all out of having to deal with my Type II.
Even still - sugar & carbs are fucking TERRIBLE for you if you're chunky. Carbs turn into sugar in your system. Sugar forces your body to retain spam. Simple as that.
I can chow the fuck down on any meat - BIG steaks - no effect. Don't gain weight, doesn't fuck up my sugar. Can eat most veggies - though I'm not much of a veggie eater. I eat a LOT of green beans. Some veggies aren't as good for you, though. Unless it's fresh corn - you have to be careful. Most fucks stick shit in/on corn to make it "stay" longer - so canned corn is a no-no. Sometimes, you have to trade the extra carbs of a veggie (like beans) for the good of the roughage they have, so there's that.
As far as sweet substitutes - the sugar-free Snack-Pack puddings rule. I get my chocolate fix that way with no blood sugar change at all.
This is NOT the most convenient way to eat. A lot of times if I'm out, I'll pack a few sammiches (only bread I have found that doesn't kill you and/or tastes good is rye & pumpernickel) and eat them when needed. If I'm eating out, I just avoid carbs - no big deal.
You HAVE to pay attention to nutrition labels, and I can't stress that enough. The marketing these asshole companies put out nowadays is beyond reason. I pretty much do NOT eat cereals, as they are all genetically enhanced wheat or other shit. I was looking for something to snack on about a year ago. 2 cereals in the cabinet. One was basically shit/generic Apple Jacks - 20 grams of sugar and something like 28 grams of carbs. Not good. Cereal #2 was Grape Nuts "FIT". Oh hell yeah - you'd think that'd be great, right? 18 grams of sugar, but fucking 48 grams of carbs! The shit cereal is better for you!
So yeah - it's a radical lifestyle change, but you WILL get used to it. I purposely came off my diabetes medicine last year to see if I could control my sugar without it, and it's been staying lower now than it was when I was on the shit. Still - having the fear that you might go into a coma if you fuck up too bad is a definite source of extra motivation, but it still works.
In the end - I was about 280 this time last year, and I hit 228 about 2 weeks ago. Down 52 lbs. over the last year, and 102 lbs. altogether. Mind you - I've only lost 10 lbs. so far this year, but it's just part of it. ALSO - I'm still sitting on my ass all the time. This has all been done with very little exercise. That's going to be my next project...
If I can do this shit, ANYBODY can.
