Re: Dallas
Thanks, Frisco. I think he missed the point. Dallas' West End is ok if you like the chain restaurant kind of thing. When I go out of town, I prefer getting some local flavor, not a Chili's or Don Pablo's, which I can do at home.

Re: Dallas
DFW hardly unique as most major airports car rental facilities are off site now. The ride from terminal is <10 minutes. Big whoop....they got a lot of space out there...may as well use it. Jim's right though....Texas Stadium is hideous...as is that Hwy 183/Stemmons route into town from the airport. ...

Re: Dallas
It's been 6 years since I moved from there so it's changed a little bit. But Frisco's right.........the locals NEVER go to the West End. It's really for tourists staying downtown. When back in town, I usually stay at the Radisson on Central across from SMU. Not as glitzy as the Hyatt but very comfor...

Re: Earthquake This Morning
It was about 5:30 (I'm on EST) and I had woken up just a little before, contemplating whether to et up and go to the gym or wait till evening. Next thing I know, the whole house starts to shake and I'm thinking WTF?!?!?! I thought it was one of the big winds like we get around here occasionally that...

Good point. Michigan should be a terminal spot for a basketball coach. Sure is for football.

Michigan.......also a final stop for a coach. No stepping stone...unless your name is Amaker. Screw- Not bitter. I'm not the IU fan Shine (alum) is. I like IU but mostly because I live here and that's the name on the paycheck (and they eliminated Carolina in '81 and '84....bless Zeke and Dakich). IU...

Re: tom crean new IU coach
Wazzu Job > IU Job Sin, Tony Bennett Bennett has a lot more latitude and margin for error in Pullman. He's still really young and has a solid program already in place to build off. He knows exactly what the future has for his program and he's "overachieving" with what he has, a great posi...

Re: neck guards ?
In the history of the NHL, I think only Bill Masterton has been the only one to die from an on-ice injury, hitting his head on the ice. Zednik and Clint Malarchuk are the only ones I know of to have their kind of flukey injury. To mandate equipment because of two incredibly rare accidents would be a...

Re: Northern Illinois school shooting
Yeah, guys that hunt pheasants and deer really need to have their guns confiscated. Let's let the deer population explode further and have an even worse ecological mess on our hands. After all, it's more humane to hit deer with cars or have them starve or be disease ridden than to take them out wit...

Re: Northern Illinois school shooting
Tim McVeigh killed a lot of people but couldn't kill the exact people that he wanted to kill. It was anonymous killing. It was done to send some sort of a sick message. We see these things happen sometimes. But the school gun killers have their sites set on some specific people that they want to in...

Re: Purdue
I wondered that too when I first moved here. Where I grew up (Tobacco Rd.), all ACC teams played each other home-and-home. I just thought it was that way everywhere. Nope. In big conferences, they don't play home-and-home with everyone. Who you play twice and who you play once rotates every year. In...

Thing coach Knight is giggling somewhere? The conspiracy theorist in me thinks he knew something was up and that is why he resigned. Myles Brand isn't there to prohibit him from coming back now. It won't happen, but it would be cool seeing him back in Bloomington. Oh, I thought about that too....wa...

Embarrassing. Really. For centuries, Bob Knight rode herd over basketball in this state and even though he was an ass at times, recruiting violations were light years from the radar screen. Now? Violations at IU? Wow. Thing coach Knight is giggling somewhere?

Two things ND has that IU doesn't....hockey and lacrosse....both of which I'd be at front and center if they did.

Re: OT: How many of you are "involved" with the game?
Any game I had is long gone. Used to play in college every day. Could pass and rebound a little, not much else. Once I started playing hockey though, my basektball days were pretty much done. Now, in a good year, I'll play hoops once, a 3-on-3 grudge match at an annual reunion of college friends. S...

Re: Maybe a light at the end of SMU's tunnel???
Great money, great city, great state, great facilities, mild expectations. All those are pretty good selling points and Jones couldn't resist. Let's not forget being in the middle of one of the greatest recruiting hotbeds in the nation. To be honest, I'm glad they seem to be trying to re-commit to ...

Re: Maybe a light at the end of SMU's tunnel???
When our program was re-instated, there were ridiculous academic and recruiting requirements that ensured failure. This probably kept the socialist faculty group happy as they abhor athletics and would prefer the school be all indroctination.....errr......academics anyway. Those were lifted a while ...

Re: Maybe a light at the end of SMU's tunnel???
You mean, was it worth doing what every other team did (and still does)? Probably not. The whole death penalty thing is a long, drawn out discussion that would take many years and cost thousands of lives to discuss here. But I'm sick of being SMU being a joke program for 20 years and am looking forw...

Maybe a light at the end of SMU's tunnel???
It's rare that there has been anything post-worthy regarding SMU football in the last 20 years. But finally, just as Shine was delivered from the dark ages of Mike Davis at IU, there may be hope finally in Dallas. We just hired June Jones as head coach. On the surface you might fall into the idiot t...

I sure hope Singler can do a lot more than McRoberts was able to. Mc could dunk in the open court and that was about it. Ok, he passed pretty well.
