the problem with Mozilla and Firefox is that they handle certain things differently from IE. This is where the rant stitches in for me. :shock; the only way that client-side code will ever inch toward 100% platform independence is if all involved parties support W3C standards. You have a ton of stu...

The problem with Mozilla and Firefox is that they handle certain things differently from IE. Its not their fault that 3rd party apps are written specifically for IE and won't always work correctly in them. Specifically certain dynamic stuff just won't work PSU. We see it all the time at university s...

True, i'm not about to download it, but I do like that its there because of the market recognition. Remember that a lot of older folks actually started out with Netscape. They have no clue what firefox is, but they may be willing to give netscape a try because it was the first browser they ever used...

So Sun has officially released the final release of Solaris 10. You can order the CDs/DVDs online for the shipping costs and a single license for playing around is free if you register Solaris.
It was released for both the Sparc and Intel CPUs.

Those who thought Netscape was dead
may have been wrong. We all know the story. AOL killed off netscape after it got a huge settlement out of Microsoft. Then out of nowhere, Netscape released a new version based on Firefox. They only had a few people actually working on it but it was in fact a new release and then they updated that ve...

Is that the name of the virus? NeomonAP23? Never heard of it. Why did they figure it out? There is no way that there is no information on the internet unless its a 0 day virus/worm. Either way, its their fault for not keeping your machines up to date. I'm working on a setup that will automate most o...

You can try the full Mozilla browser. Its a different code base, although works fairly similar to Firefox. Netscape is based off of either Mozilla or Firefox, depending which one you download. Opera has been around for quite a while. Same thinking as firefox but totally different codebase. Also supp...

So as the Tech forum mod, I'll try to liven up this place from time to time by asking questions from you guys for projects I"m working on at work. I'll try to keep them as open ended as possible so you can throw in info even if it doesn't directly apply to me and my requirements. Today's questi...

Gear Live published an article about the Mac's one button mouse. Why do they still ship with it? Well the reasons are quite funny and to be truthful I can't argue with em. The real surprise for some of you will be that: Mac's Support Two buttons and have done so for the past 7 (yes Seven) years. Lin...

Anyone ever heard of it? I think I've mentioned it to some folks who read the TOT Tech forum regularly. MythTV is an open source project to create a very advanced computer/build it yourself PVR. Can you not afford your own PVR? No problem, take a computer and build it yourself. Of course more then l...

I concur. SP2 is trash, but if they are just basic users, you can install it and then just make sure that you disable the built in firewall and security center and enable the automatic download of security patches. If you have time, you can instead just install all the required security patches and ...

I guess the biggest question is are you planning on using all of the tools or just the two you already have installed? Most people only use email and the web. They don't browse the news servers on the web and they don't go on irc. I'd say unless you use all the tools, just download what you need. -ET

Software patents
Do you think they are a good idea? I personally think its BS. Why? Because that would be like Mcdonalds going out and patenting the idea of a fast food burger place. KFC would patent Fast food fried chicken. Etc. Companies are patenting ideas instead of implementation. If you read some of these pate...
