DiT, ET Yes, that is all good advice, and we are currently pursuing increased security. Fortunately they broke into the wrong side of the site. All the real critical data is well protected. We're developing code that will match up IPs with usernames, and if it comes up different than the established...

I solved it. It was a process in the busiest SVCHOST that was causing it. I disabled just one of them that was obviously not necessary, and it worked. It now shuts down normally. Thanks for all the help everyone. Its great to have a place to go to where you can always get real answers to stuff like ...

Home network workgroup names
I just realized that one of my puters on the network has a different work group name.
Questions:
1 Does anything else besides changing the workgroup name have to be done?
2. Why am I able to see the shared file folder on this computer that is in a different workgroup?

I'm up to my ears in email addresses. I have separate ones for everything business related, and don't get any spam at all because they are direct customer to customer only. I also have a bunch of yahoo ones that have a half life of a few years before spam runs them into the ground. I'll check it out...

You are right on, ET. I received a response from Kinkos, and they will cooperate fully provided a lawyer or a police officer sends them a subpoena. They store all info on a central computer somewhere. I tried to find a lawyer in the local phone book who covered this area, but I couldn't. Now I'm try...

Question regarding website security and a break in
someone got a hold of a customers password and username and broke into my website this weekend. They did no damage, but they viewed stuff that is confidential. They did it from a kinkos. I've been trying to access this kinkos office with no luck. My questions: 1. Do I have ANY legal rights to pursue...

What happened to your avitar? Music take: The early Beatles albums are horribly underrated by most music critics, who prefer to dwell on the post touring phase of the Beatles career. In doing so, they are missing out on some great music. From Meet the Beatles through Rubber Soul, these album...

Hey ET - Shut down problem COntinued
I posted this elsewhere, but I haven't solved it, and had a couple of questions. It will go through normal shutdown, but then it will stop, not freeze, just stop, at the "windows is shutting down" screen. I have to do a hard reboot to shut it down. I can shut down with no problem in hibern...
